Default Coupe or Vert for DD?

Will start looking seriously for the right car this year.

My first Vette will be a daily driver (sorry).

I live in Chicago and will have another car available for the really bad days.

Coupe or Vert?? How is the Vert in the winter? Warm enough? Is the Vert quiet enough for a DD?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

I have a coupe as my daily driver and it is fine in the winter. I don't get the Chicago winters in Vancouver, even though I am in Chicago right now working and freeze my butt off. The Vert will be a little noiser and that is a fact. As for warmth you have the heater which works very quick in the vettes.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that. It just seems that here at the Forum that using a Vette for a DD is a sacrilege.

For a DD, I'd go with a Coupe. When you want to be topless, remove the targa!

I love my glass targa! Too much wind in my hair with the verts.

My vert is a DD and I love it. I wouldn't apologize for anything. I think those that don't love theirs enough to drive it daily should apologize. I don't have to contend with your winters but have you ever been through an AZ summer?

Vert will be a little noisier but I've heard some guys say the wind is worse with a targa top off than with the vert. I haven't owned or driven a coupe so I can't say. Bottom line, I wouldn't have anything but a vert.

It all depends on what you want. The vert is probably easier for convenience of removing and restoring the top. I have a coupe and find it annoying to have to go around to both sides to check the weatherstrip before latching it down. It also depends on how often you want to run without the top. Oh, and you do get buffetting with a coupe at higher speeds...as well as flexure in the the body. Also, IF you intend on selling or trading in the future...the vert will bring you more $$$.

Buy what you want. I drive mine in the western 'burbs throughout the winter. Now, today ain't the day to be driving, but this is only the second day this winter I haven't had mine out. I bought Michelin PS A/S ZP's because the GY's were shot and were terrible for traction.

I have one of each for a daily driver! Usually my criteria for which one to drive on which day is the weather. If it's going to rain/snow, I know I won't have the opportunity to take the top down (even if the temps would allow it), so I drive the coupe. This is my first winter with the vert and it's just as warm as the coupe...I can tell no difference. I've also been amazed that there is no difference in either of mine re: wind noise. IMO, you can't go wrong with either....just depends on your budget.

Good luck with your decision!

Julie!

I agree with that ... I drive mine, but like you, leave it home on the bad days. But it's so much fun to drive, that I stay in it. Garage queens only depreciate, and you don't get the fun of driving them often.

I'd get the couple. For one, you can take the top off and have something close to a vert; for another, you can get more stuff in it and keep it dry.

Also, isn't the insurance on a Vert higher? Not that it's twice as high or anything, but more.

In the end, get what you want. Somewhere down the line, you can get whatever your don't get this time.

Good luck on your search

I drove my 68 as a DD for many years and driving a vert with the top down during rush hour is NO fun at all. The coupe with translucent top is ideal - the interior is bright and airy, while you can still hear your stereo. Now if you don't live in the city or if you want a great sunny day cruiser, the vert is great.

I've had both a c4 coupe and a c5 vert. The vert is definitely more enjoyable at high speeds with the top down/off. The coupe is definitely quieter with the top on/up.

Verts are noiser because if you own one the top is always down.

I live in the western burbs too! Yeah, I agree that today is not the day to drive a vette. But it's not the day to drive too many other vehicles. My wife's 4wd is what I was out in today.

So....a vette as a dd in the western burbs is cool for most days? The streets do get clean pretty fast.

A DD is great but for the winter and big snow falls I think not. That's the only concern I would have. And a Vert all the way. Top down in the summer you can't beat it.

A vette is a cool DD anywhere, anyday. Keep a good coat of wax on her, wash the saline grime off as often as you can, and detail her come spring. Check out the Great Lakes forum, too. Nice bunch of people in Chicagoland.
