Since I've gotten my vette, I've noticed a secondary effect that's saving us some money.
When it was 2004 BC (before Corvette) around here, when something on the car needed doing, off to the fixit shop it went. Hell, I didn't even change my own oil anymore. Just wasn't worth all the trouble.
But like everyone else, I've started turning wrenches around here. I've brought my tools out of the basement, put me some stoage cabinets in the garage, bought a jack and some ramps, put better lighting in the garage and now I fix everything here myself. I just got finished installing a junkyard window glass in my Dodge Dakota some SOB busted a couple of weeks ago to steal my stereo. Glass cost me $75 and the glass shop wanted $220 to fix it. That's $145 I saved just because I own a Corvette!
I agree. I've started wrenching again myself. I thought it was all done when the cars went to computers. But the engine bays are no longer full of vacuum tubes and sensors. It's almost like being back in the 60's again. You can actually see the motor again.
Jackalope you are on to something here I did a lot of wrenching on the C3 restoration ... kept busy replacing parts on my son's cars (Camaro and Firebird) and now the C5 ... that necessitated that I absolutely had to have a complete set of air tools; a lift; outfitted my garage with 5 TVs; beer fridge; and recliners ... I now have to do a mess of oil changes to come out ahead ... not sure I'm really saving any money, but I'll be modding 'till they put me in the ground! That might be sooner than later if my wife ever finds out how much I've spent!

Yeah, but think how much you would've spent if you'd paid somebody else to put all those mods on your vette!
Any way you look at it, you saved money. Now what you did with what you saved is another thing altogether!
Jack you are so right plus the gas money you save cause of the great gas milage the vette gets ( sans WOT)
My car is up on jackstands for the winter mod enhansment season. The only poblems is I have been eyeing the g/f C5 ( bone stock) going 'Hmmmm what can I do here?'
Gotta say, I owe these savings to you guys on the forum. I'd never have attempted some of the stuff I've done if I didn't know that help was just a post away!

Its the significant other you need to convince its a Cost saving car.
We all appreciate the benefits of the Vette...its my wife that doesnt understand the need to MOD!!!!!
Not to mention the sheer fun of driving the darn thing! It's absolutely the most solid driving car I've ever owned, and even having the 'slowest' Vette made, it'll pin you in the seat when you want it to. I'll have to buy tires before too awfully long ... and I'm not looking forward to that experience.
Plus, I keep thinking in the back of my mind that I'd like to get new sway bars ... and shocks ... and improve the 'fun' aspect even more. Plus, changing out the rear end gears has a certain appeal ....

My '02 Coupe get way better mileage than my old car, the '91 Firebird Formula... of course the really good part is how much more power the Vette has even with the much higher mpg...
My Wife just informed me after reading this thread that she saves me money too....
There was a 40% sale at Goldsmiths and all she spent was 300 bucks!!
