Default Smaller steering wheel?

Guys

Have you ever felt you need a smaller, performance steering wheel but didn't want to quit airbag? Looks like we may have a solution for you :-)

We've started with a C6 and will hopefully post the results within no more than 2-3 weeks. Depending on future interest, the C5 wheel will follow

So far we have modified core and we are now working on the resin overlay. Here's the comparison of stock steering wheel with smaller, modified core - this should give you some hint of what to expect

What do you think? Is this something we should proceed with or maybe we're just wasting our time and OEM steering wheel is good enough?

Please let me know

Take care

Jack

Please god yes. If you can do this affordably I think it would be huge for the C5 community. I was actually considering this exact experiment a few days ago but you guys have the experience and upholstery capability already. You probably already noticed but most sport steering wheels are 3 spoke, the c5 is 4 spoke which seems a little more difficult to manipulate.

just my thoughts- it might be easier to offer some alcanterra / suede material for the circular part rather than try to color match the airbag, etc. I'm sure y'all could manage either way though.

looking forward to it!

HATE!!!! Our wheel. I want one!
I'd like to get jazzy if possible. All black leather. Black stitching. But how does the c6 wheel thickness compare to the c5. I'd like the new wheel to be smaller and thicker.

would look forward to seeing this as well. a smaller flat bottom would be awesome too, but a smaller stock c5 wheel would do wonders.

I believe if you can at least provide a slightly smaller diameter at the right price point, keeping the airbag- I bet you'd be hard pressed to find a C5 owner who wouldn't upgrade their wheel. It just doesn't work for this car. Thicker and flat bottom and all that stuff is awesome but the main issue is the frickin size. It's like driving a school bus!!

Of course the airbag will work because for smaller C5 wheels we will be using original C5 metal cores so the airbag and wiring will be P&P

W will start working on C5 and other models as soon as we finish the C6 prototype and successfully solve all the problems that will surely arice along the way.

Hope to have something more to say next week

Take care

The D shaped, flat on the bottom styling would be better.
That stock wheel was standard on every GM car of that era.
Then I'm a buyer! I'm sure others would be too.

The air bag is a bit of a trick because the C5 has a single stage bag and the later C6 triangular bags are usually dual stage and not exactly compatible. There is a way to fit another single stage bag in a C6 air bag assembly but I am guessing that you have figured this out.

It would be a bargain to purchase from you because it is a bit of an ordeal to do at home and costly if you do only one.

Depends on how much it'll cost. Any projected targets? Airbag is the only thing preventing me from throwing a Momo on the car right now.

We do already offer flat bottom steering wheel for C5: http://www.redlinegoods.com/C5fbwheel.php

This concern is actually irrelevant here - once we finalize the C6 wheel we will start working on other models so you will receive smaller wheel built upon OEM C5 4-spoke steering wheel that will just P&P with your steering shaft, airbag, wiring, etc

Stay tuned!

Take care

A little update - the C6 wheel looks like this:

The urethane resin is built up on the smaller core and needs a bit of fine tuning before it is wrapped in leather.

Hope to show it completed early next week

Take care

It's going to take some time for sure, considering our current work load I don't think we're able to start working on this project earlier than mid-January.

But it will eventually happen, for sure

Take care
