Default Ticking noise after plug change

I now have a ticking noise that seems to be coming from the front right (passenger) side of the engine bay, after a plug removal/swap. Sounds like valvetrain noise. I don't know. Car has 30k miles on it. Any ideas?

Make sure all your wires are securely on the plugs otherwise the arc from the plug to the wire causes interference with the radio causing a "clicking noise" from your speakers. I would still make sure they are secure even if you don't think the noise is coming from you speakers as I'm sure an arcing plug can cause quite a few problems. I had this happen to me despite being sure that the wires were securely in place, when I went back to check, one of them was lose. Problem solved.

Also make sure all the plugs are in properly and tight.

I have a stephoscope with a small megaphone attachment on it. I also have one with a long metal rod. The rod placed on engine components will also allow you to zero in on the source of the noise.
The stephoscope is real handy at zeroing in on the exact loctaions of noises.
You can do the exact samething using a 5/16" rubber vacuum hose by holding one end up to your ear and sweeping the other end over the area where the suspected noise is.

I just took a look at the car. I looked at the wire conenctions from the coilpack to the sparkplug. I was mainly working on cylinders 2, 4, 6, & 8. I tried (the best I could) to push the boot in as firmly as possible. When I started the car for about a minute.. I went & touched every boot. I noticed when I touched the boots on cylinders 2 & 4, I felt it clicking/moving in my hand, while all the others didn't click or move. I shut the car off & tried to push the boot in some more.. but it feels like it's in there pretty firmly. Had to let the car cool down because the header area/heat shield was starting to get hot.

Matt

The boots fit on pretty tight. Sometimes they can trap air in the boot and that causes them to pop back off. I found that you can insert the flat end of a ZIP TIE in under the boot and burp the air out. They go real easy when you do that!

Ok.. I just pretty much confirmed that the ticking was coming from the #2 cylinder. I tried moving it while the car was on.. and the noise would go away.. but it still wiggles & feels loose. Guess I'll bring it by Angel tomorrow (again.)

I found to get them on, you need to squeeze the boot and move the metal piece inside to line it up. It should snap when it goes in properly.

And don't forget the dielectric silicone gease applied lightly to the inside of the boot and porcelain area of the plug with a Q-tip.

Well now.. let this be said. Do not go to Kelley Chevrolet to have your plugs or wires changed! Brought it to the dealer AGAIN today.. and told them about the loose/clicking feeling on cylinders 2 & 4. Sure enough.. the plugs were never fully tightened. Tech was like "wow.. you sure do have an ear for noises.." You could hear the ticking from inside the car, outside the car, next to the car.. didn't matter.. you could definately hear it. Anyway.. no more ticking now.. & I'm happy... for now.

You must not like your car very much to take it back to the dealer.
I hope it's fixed finally.

The only reason I do, honestly, is to be covered at all angles warranty wise. I'm very handy with cars & like working on them.. but when it comes to my own personal cars, I prefer peace of mind knowing if something does go wrong, I'm covered.
