Default No HVAC control display

Just got my C5 yesterday.

One thing, my HVAC seems to work fine, but display screen doesnt light up. Any ideas what could cause this?

thanks

It happens to many c5' s, it has happen to mine, you can only change out the head to make it work again. The good things it easy to do and you can get one from gm parts direct at a good price.
Welcome: sorry that has to happen befor you get alot of seat time in your new car. mine went out at 70k miles. so i had a lot of seat time before anything went worng with it.

GM Parts Direct is a Forum Vendor. Check out the list on the left hand side of this page. BEFORE you go and buy a new one, take the old one out of the dash and clean the contacts, sometimes just unplugging and plugging it back again can bring it back to life. You can purchase a used one from Gene's Karshop, another Forum Vendor who sells mainly used parts. Good luck

ok... good info. I'll do the contact cleaning thing, if still no display, I'll get either a used one or new, depending on cost.

anyone know how much one of these costs?

I had the same issue the other day.

Look to the fuses under the passenger footboard. Even though they were not blown...pulling and rinserting made the display work again. Read the lable on the fuse box lid...I think it was like # 37.

My C5 is in the dealer right now getting this replaced. Up here in Canada it costs $550 including parts and labor. And they initially ordered the wrong part, so they've had my car there since Monday, and it's the nicest weather we've had all winter right now.

I'm glad I don't have that option...sounds like another big GM screw up.

Without that option then you don't get the display for the outside temperature though. I can't live without that feature!

One question for you guys. When you order the new control unit, what exactly do you get? I'm not sure but it looks like I got the entire climate control panel, including all the buttons on the outside. Or is it just the center piece with the display? My 98 is in such good shape inside that it's hard to tell, since the entire interior looks brand new anyhow.
