Default how does tire pressure sensor attach at the wheels?

Im wondering how the tire pressure sensor attaches at the wheel. If there is a wire running onto the wheel, how does it stay at a fixed point when the wheel is rotating? Like why doesnt the wire 'go with' the wheel and get wrapped around the axel?

The wheel sensors are transmitters.they are part of the valve stem as in a one piece unit, held in place by a valve stem nut. Either that or they use a lot of wire, then when it gets to the end the DIC says you have to drive backwards for the next three years...

Yes, they have a battery in them, and transmit their pressure via radio waves every so often. Eventually the batteries will die. It is too bad that they don't come with a system that can recharge itself from all the rotational forces of driving. (Maybe I should patent that idea?!)

Each sensor does its broadcast a little bit different so that the car can differentiate the 4 of them. There is a "training" mode where you tell it which sensor is in which wheel. Check out the C5 Tech Tips for how to do it.

They do recharge themself. far from the popular belief , they are designed to last 10 years because they are rechargable via the turning of the wheels.. they go to sleep when they sit for a while..

lol, evil-twin you have a point, but i thought it was lower tech than that. I didnt think they had wireless data being transferred on older cars. Ive never seen the mechanism that monitors the tire pressure, so i had no idea it would be capable of RF transmission. I bet you'd get a kick outa the fact that i work in the wireless field lol..

Someone before gave me the idea that the tire pressure sensor was hardwired to the to the CPU, thats y i was curious to find out HOW it couldve been hardwired. forgive me

Service manuals, service manuals. You now own a "high-tech" vehicle, invest $150.00 and there will be no dumb questions.

Here are some pictures of 2001 - 2004 wheel sensors on the wheel and off.

The ones for 97-2000 are larger. They can NOT be interchanged!!
