Default Telescoping column question

Just had a telescoping column added to my 99 convertible, however it does not work with the memory. According to the tech who installed it, I do not have the wiring for the memory function of the column, so he did not turn it on in the BCM.

What parts would be required to add the wiring for this function. Would it require an entire new wiring harness, or just a partial one. Part numbers and estimated prices would be appreciated. FYI, I do have the memory seats and digital A/C controls.

Thanks,

Gary

Congrats on getting this neat feature added!

I'm reall sorry I don't have the technical answer to your question but I do have a suggestion! On my 01 Coupe the column is always all the way out (towards me). I don't use the easy entry/exit feature (wears on seat rails and assume wears on the column telescope, too).

I'm a tall guy so my knees need lots of room when I'm getting in and out of the Vette. With the wheel telescoped in, my knees were cramped and bump the wheel. With the wheel out, knees OK.

I like the driving position with the wheel all the way out and also like the ability to change it when on trips and just goofing around.

I guess all of this doesn't help if there are two regular drivers who like different steering wheel positions. Oh well...

Like I said...sorry...hope it helps...Bill

Thanks for the suggestion. I do leave the column all the way out most of the time. However, I would like to have the memory as thw wife drives the car occasionally.

I'm at work, so I don't have my service manuals with me to give a detailed description, but I can tell you from my memory that the steering column telescopic memory function is controlled by the computer under the drivers seat. The computer under the seat connects to the colum with a plug that is normally next to the one that powers the seat (the steering column one is blue).

In order to get the column to work you would have to get the column properly connected to the computer. You can probably rig it up to work with just a copy of the schematics, but getting it connected to the computer would be the hard part.

Click on my profile and send me an email if you'd like for me to scan the schematics and email them back to you. It may take a day or so, but it's not a problem.

Thanks for the response.

I already have all of the 3 1999 service manuals with the schematics, but I am a novice at reading them. I will take a look under my seat to see if there is a blue plug.

Thanks again
