Default Electrical Gremlin(s), Dash/Brake Lights

It's just one thing after another, after another, after another....

Took the car out for a spin at dusk and everything was fine, that was until I had to turn the lights on. Headlights work fine but no interior dash illumination and no running brake lights. The brakes lit up when tapped but nothing without the foot on the pedal. No fog lights either

Any clues, suggestions, etc

that symptom is usually a fuse, but if you're getting one thing after another, you may want to use Bill Curlee's instructions for cleaning the ground points....

Hey Mark, do you have a front Fascia on it yet?

I hope you get these things fixed! Sorry to hear about your troubles!

Hey Chris....yes it is, reinstalled it last weekend and now this

Still don't have reverse either and pushing it off the ramps last week, the driver's door caught the garage door....I swear this car is out to drive me insane!

Thanks....will check it out when I get home

The "one thing after another" comment was about continous issues with the car unrelated to this current one but thanks for the heads up, at this rate, I'll need the info sometime down the road.

I'm hoping that's the cause, but hate having to dig back into the front fascia again but I guess it has to be done....I was pretty careful to make sure I connected stuff back up before sealing it up, thought there was only one connection in there but this weekend I guess I'm back at it

It might be worth the effort of pulling the battery and having a look under it... I've seen too many posts about leaks/corrosion or pests... also the grounding points is a good suggestion.

No battery issues, brand new Optima in there

Been seriously thinking about it but doubt it could be easily off loaded especially considering all I've posted here and how up front I'd be about the car.

Too bad the new Z06 is a f'ing fixed roof coupe

Mark dont know if you recall but 2 years ago John had the same problems and it was a combo of battery acid leaking on to the pcm and his eurotail harness being fried. Had there been any sign of battery acid leakage ?

Hey Cecil...naw, no wiring or harness damage due to the battery, clean as a whistle in there and no Euro's either.

I have to assume it has something to do with having the front fascia off and/or a fuse....at least I hope it's that simple

Check fuse/s (Instrument Panel Electrical Center) #15, #6 and #8

Are you sure that all of the other lights work normaly? DRL's Front running lights, side marker lights, licsens plate lights ect...
Do you get the little power on indicator light on the Fog Light switch when you press the switch?

I looking in the service manual and ready to help.

Mark,

I have your answer. I just had the exact same problem last spring. It's all in the turn signal multi switch.
SX:
tail lights gone
fog lights gone
dash lights gone
Brake lights work
Blinkers

GM parts direct was the cheapest at$132 shipped and the install was easy. You need a few torx bits to get at it but all in all a 30 minute job.

EDIT: What the H***! I thought this was new. I'm sure you figured it by now.

Default simliar issue driving me batty

I have a similar issue, but mine is intermittant. Sometime the lights work fine, sometimes I have to sit and flick the switch a dozen or more times, and they will eventually come on.

I'm assuming it's the control switch, but something i've noticed lately that makes me wonder, is that when i first turn them on, they usually come right on, and the longer they are on, the more likely they will not come on. Clear as mud right?

Example: I get in and the lights come on fine the first time that day, even if i turn them off/on several times. I drive around for 15 minutes, and stop at a 7-11. When i come back out, i have to play the switch flick game to get them to come on again. Makes me wonder if it's a relay? Is it possible to take the switch apart and clean the contacts, or is it toast, and i should just own up and buy a new one?

Thanks!
