I would not panic. My first dyno was on a Mustang and the reading was 270hp (I have a FRC so it is an M6) Lots of HP was not being recorded since the tires were smoking on the rollers which told me that if you can't hook up, you certainly can't measure.
Later, after some tuning and an MAF-T, I did about 8 pulls on another dyno (Dynojet) and the peak was 326/330 torque.

tune up
seafoam, plug wires, plugs, fuel filter, clean air filter. i have 1998 A4, it don't get very good gas mileage, not really very fast i don't think. i bought it with low miles. i bought it from a lady that didn't drive very fast and sit in portland traffic a lot with the air on. so i'm wondering with the cat overtemp protection how good condition the cats are. i put borla stingers on, they don't seem to be very loud. maybe you should chect out your cats also..........good luck.
