I friggin' love you man!!!!!! That email is exactly what I needed. Nothing beats a picture of exactly what to look for. Turns out I DID have the relay, I just didn't know it when I saw it. Took it out, and jumped 87 to 30 and WALA!!!!! Car starts right up w/no problems!!!!
I just had this happen to me also. Colum is unlocked and the car cuts off. When I bought the car I can a carfax report and it did say that a warrenty repair was done.
What do I need to do.....
Also the recall 04006C was done on July 28, 2006. I thought that should have taken of it this correct?

That recall added the K-Harness which is prone to failure. I had the same issue and had a clb installed and the k-harness removed, no issues since

Ha! Ha! I'm glad you firgured it out,But the credit should go to CSCOKD!!
He helped me out a few weeks ago with the info. All I did was return the favor.Good Luck!!
Well I (unforturnately) am now part of the "it happened to me club". Last week I got the "pull key wait 10 seconds" - "Service Column Lock". Of course in the past I just breezed through the this topic and couldn't remember what to do while sitting in the parking lot about 5 miles from home. Had the car towed to "Koons-White Marsh, MD) Mechanic said he did the latest service from GM, no charge. But before it happened my column wouldn't lock so I assumed the service was performed. Of course it may have been, but just failed again. So I was feeling pretty good about this last service until I read these posts. I purchased the CLB from Thunder racing a while ago, didn't install it because I figured it was resolved. Now I'm guessing this should be my next step. I'm sorry to keep repeating the questions but after reading these posts it gets confusing for a slightly mechanical person like me.
Anyway THANKS to everyone that has helped others with this issue. I know how down I was seeing Buttercup being loaded on a flat bed. Thank God the driver was very careful with her, loading and unloading.
This site really is top shelf. I look forward to meeting some of you at future events.
I recently bought a 2000 vette which already had both recalls performed. A couple weeks ago, the "pull key 10 secs" message came on, then when I restarted it I got the "service steering column" message, but was able to reset it and drive home. However the next morning I got the same messages, but could not get past the 2 mph fuel cutoff. I noticed that I no longer heard the lock motor run when I took the key in and out of the ignition. Disconnected the battery, checked fuses, no help. Took it to the dealer today after calling the zone office on Friday to warn them that I would be looking to them for financial assistance. Got a call a couple hours later that it was all fixed. The explanation was that the work done under the second recall changed in midstream, and that mine was done under the first half procedure, which involved a new harness which did not have a relay in it. So they put the new harness w/ relay in, it's supposedly all fixed, and at no charge!!! Hope this helps someone somewhere.
01 mn6 all the dealer recalls done, they lasted two years then service column lock came on wheel would turn but fuel shut off at 1.5 mph. so i tried all the tricks fuses keys bla bla bla. then pulled out k harness out plugged the motor back to original and no messages and car runs normal once again gm cant fix there own junk. clb on order, they should sell the corvette to ford
This is my first post, and this is the exact reason why I am here.A friend turned me on to this site.
My problem is with a 2000 6-speed Vette.
The column lock problem of course is my ache. This car was just recently purchased, and we are not sure if the recall has even been performed.
If I am reading this correctly,if I purchase the By-Pass kit,I will still need to take this particular Vette to the dealer to have them "unlock" it. Only then, can I install the by-pass.
This is my parents car. I am a Diesel Tech, and Freightliners,Petes and so forth do not have the anti theft bugs that newer cars have.Any insight is appreciated.
P.S. This site has GREAT tech advice,I have been on many sites, and this one is very informative.I will be getting a Vette of my own within a few years hopefully.I am looking forward to showing it off when I do.
I was told by a clb vendor that the clb should not be used after a problem has occured. I was able to talk the dealer into just removing the locking plate. Now it can not physically lock and the lock pin still functions but there is nothing for it to end up locked in. To my understanding there is also no reason for it to end up shutting the fuel or engine off now since there was no relay or harness replaced. Not sure if you can talk them into just removing the plate. But I picked mine up after a couple hours so it can't be too hard. I also found out by the performance shop that hp tuners now have an option to just turn off the column lock but for some reason they were not able to on my 99. That should be a considered option for anyone it may work for.
My car did end up messing up again and the column did not lock. But the fuel did shut off above 2mph. I was able to have the fuel shutoff raised with a hp tuner and now it does not lock and does not shut off. Hoping that is all it takes.
Well I just experienced the dreaded steering column lockup issue on my 2000 M6 C5 after 54000 miles. We called the Chevrolet dealer and they sent out a tow truck. The original recall fix was performed on the vehicle in 2002 and now the dealer tells me that I will have to pay $570 plus towing and tax to get it fixed.....IS THIS RIGHT????????
I thought reading the threads that Chevrolet was responsible for fixing this problem forever, not just once. Is there any documentation I can print and take to Chevy to show they are responsible for the costs? or am I in error?
I have a 2000 MN6, 56k miles. I had the 2004 recall performed. I've had the column lock 3 times since. 1st two times I was able to "shock" it by jerking on the steering wheel and it released. This time, not so lucky. I called my usual dealer and their corvette "expert" told me that I'd be paying for all of it. I towed it to a closer dealer instead based on advice from a local vette shop. I called GM customer service before heading over to get them involved. They gave me a case number which I shared with the service department. The dealer replaced the lock and the relay and ended up covering all the costs!! (except the tow, I didn't press the issue). I heard that another dealer around here (Springfield, VA) did a similar thing. Maybe GM is finally owning up to this??
I just recently had the service steering column message come up on my 2001 vette, and of course it is right after I wash it up. I've been reading up on what to do through this site. M steering wheel is not locked, but I get the service steering column message and the fuel cuts out after 2-3 mph. After reading I figured I needed the column lock simulator thats is available through thunder racing so I put the order in for it. They called me back to tell me that it was out of stock. The guy asked what was occuring with the vette and I told him about the message, the fuel shut off, and that the steering wheel was not locked. He then said that I would need to take it to GM so they can fix it before I install the simulator. Is this true? I thought I read of people buying these so they did not need to take it to the dealership. I don't really want anyone else touching my car. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I read the FAQ's on this first.
I never had any trouble with my 2000 Corvette [automatic trans], until I got a recall letter on the steering column lock and had a dealer perform the recall work in early 2005. In a matter of months afterward I started getting the Pull Key..Wait 10 Sec message, and when I did that, the car would display the Service Steering Column lock message and would not go faster than a couple of mph without dying. Another dealer re-did the recall and the car did fine until last week when it started all over.
My recall removed the lock plate, so it can't lock up. I don't know whether my car is an A4, MN6 or MN12. How do you determine that ? Does that make a difference as to what will remedy the fault? Will a CLB fix the problem?
I would welcome any suggestions.
CLB will not fix the fuel cut-off issue, which is in the PCM. I'm not sure what triggers this BS anti-theft device, but the only true way to not have to worry about getting stranded by this is to go have a tuner change the setting from 1.5 mph (stock factory setting) to something like 155-255 mph. This way it will never trigger the shut off again. I took it to a local tune shop and he charged $25, it took him all of 5 minutes to fix, and I am on the road again with peace of mind I will not be stranded again.
man... all y'all with a stickshift having problems with this fault... jump the relay in the passenger footwell. i fixed my car with 2" of wire. faultless ever since. Cysco Kid is the man.
before i figured this out, in desperation i maybe thought the clb had failed, so i bought another one, not needed, so anyway i have a spare clb, if anyone needs one i'll give it to you, it's 'probably' still good. but jump that relay!!!
Cheers,
hp

so which pins did you jump, one time (pulse when it happens) or permanent jumper?
Just got the SERVICE COLUMN LOCK after having various battery and alternator problems.
not sure now if i have some BCM issues or not... but regardless of that, I've got a 2001 MN6 that had the recall done, but can't go past 2mph in my garage
Steering column lock message; won't go over 1.5 mph without fuel pump shut off.
I tried removing the battery cables and re-booting. Didn't work. Tried removing fuse # 23, then 25. Didn't work. Removed fuse # 13 with the engine idling, after about 2-3 minutes the engine died. Now it won't even crank, and the dash voltmeter shows no voltage! What happened ? Help!!!
