I have a '01 Z06 that had the first recall done back in 2004.
I just purchased the CLB from COH and installed it last night. When I first started the car I received the "Pull key, wait 10 seconds" message and knew that I was going to have to remove the necessary fuses to get it to reset. Instead of removing the fuses, I just waited the 10 seconds and inserted the key again and the message was gone.
Am I in the clear from receiving that message again or should I just pull those fuses just for backup?

You should be fine now. Sometimes it takes a couple of ignition cycles to get the CLB in sync with your BCM
Hi John,
I replaced fuse #25 and ran a dedicated ground from the CLB relay. I cycled the ignition five times. After ten minutes of the car sitting off, I always get the pull key error and this was no difference. Thanks for your input.

i just got the "service column lock" message on my 97 mn6. As soon as I started moving the fuel pump would shut down. I had no idea what had been done, if anything, by previous owners to prevent it. While trying to figure out how to get the car running again, i found the lock mechanism was actually moving in and out, but not going into anything. I have to assume the plate had been removed.

I also found this under the driver dash:
which is this:
I removed it and reconnected the original connectors and it ran perfect.
is this the recall mod, or at least part of it?
if it is the recall mod, is it too late to install a CLB?
Do I need to take my car to the dealer to get it fixed?
I installed my CLB this weekend, after receiving my 99 back from the dealership for the install of a new actuator. Recall #4006 was performed on my car back in February, so the K-Harness should have been installed, but when I installed my CLB this weekend, it didn't appear to have a K-harness. I got the CLB in without removing anything, so I'm guessing that is proof that there was no K-harness installed (you can't have the K and a CLB installed at the same time, right?).
Does anyone know whether the dealer is supposed to remove the K-harness when installing a new actuator? Or is it possible that the recall was never performed on my vehicle (ie no K-harness)?
I had almost exactly the same event -- pulled the harness-k -- and it ran perfect -- I purchased & installed the CBL to bypass any future lock motor issues -- fuel shutoff could be programed out of the PCM, but I plan to gamble and not do that yet.
I've been getting the 2mph fuel cut off every 10 starts or so. I pull out the key, flip it over, and try again, and it works almost every time. It still worries me though. I don't get the "pull key, wait 10 seconds" message like everyone else seems to. I have the Corvettes of Houston CLB (installed a couple of years ago).
Could this be a problem with my ignition switch? The CLB going bad? Or is it more likely a problem with my BCM?
For those of you who pulled the K, plugged the wire back in, and placed your bets...I did the same two years ago on my 98. This morning while backing out of the garage, the house won. Good thing it's sitting in my garage while I wait for my soon to be purchased CLB to arrive.

My intent is to get a CLB, but I have read that if the recall has been done on the car, the CLB will not work.

I called Corvettes of Houston, and they told me you can install a CLB after the recall, as long as the car is functioning properly (ie no warning or "service column lock"). I did it, and so far it appears to be ok... From what I have read in this thread, you can remove the K-harness and install a CLB in its place.

So I decided to put a charger on the battery for a couple of hours last night and this morning...no message! Still, I'm not messin' around any longer. The CLB would've been installed yesterday had UPS understood I'm a workin' man and not tried to deliver it at 2:00PM.
I just had my DIC give me the pull key and wait 10 seconds after I started the car, wasn't sure what was going on and tried turning the wheel Well you can guess what happened. I think I was lucky, because I pulled the key and waited and it worked fine. It is a '98 MN6 and I have no idea if it has had the recall done.
Is this a common symptom before this the thing locks up completely? Original post said the only symptom was "Service Column Lock".
I had the factory steering column modification done to my 2000 6-speed as per the recall. The harness and I believe the actuator were replaced. Everything was fine, no more messages for 2 years.
Recently I had a Magnacharger installed and the Service Column Lock message came back on the DIC.
They tuned the installation on a dyno and did the necessary programming. Also installed were Lingenfelter heads, competition cam and some other goodies.
The car runs great pulls 28 MPG in 6th on cruise and 17 mpg in the city, and gobs of power, so I'm not complaining, but I am dubious about taking the car to the dealer. I'm sure that if I give my tuners a heads up on what it could be they will be more than glad to fix it at no charge.
Hey guys i got a 2000 black Man 6 speed , It's been about a week it had been displaying the " Pull Key Please Wait 10 seconds " error message , The steering wheel locked yesterday and i got it loose, by turning the steeringwheel right as i've been turning the key. I have done this about 3 times First question is will it keep unlocking by doing this procedure or will it eventually just not unlock at all .... I called GM and they refered me to the dealer since it is a recall. 2nd Question is since it is a recall what exact procedure will the dealer do to fix the issue. I have read most of the threads on this issue and most people are not specifying if they have an automatic or a manual. Your help appreciated thanks....
To Clarify, my steering wheel doesn't lock up anymore since the recall. The only thing I am experiencing is the Service Steering Lock message. I just want to get rid of the message so it doesn't come up each time the car is started.
Replaced battery and fixed column lock/fuel shutoff for only a few months
It's perhaps time for a class action law suit against GM. GM and the dealerships are in denial. It amazes me that they claim my sudden fuel shut off/column lock issue is not related to the column lock recall they just performed. I just get that dump look when I ask.. If I just had a column lock recall done.. why am I getting a service column lock message? I can't trust to drive this car anywhere!
I have "mas o menos" the same problems. I'm from the Island of Curacao and I have a C-5 '99 and there were some repairs done by the local GM-dealer (I don't know exactly what) but now the Corvette is out of order for 3 weeks and it will cost a lot to repair the errors “pull key wait 10 sec.” and “Service column lock”. To my knowledge they are the only one on the Island that can do the job. Unfortunately the Local GM-dealer can’t assist me with the Recall to GM.
I am desperate to drive my DREAM CAR but I am totally depended from the local Dealer whose have monopoly (I my opinion).
Could you assist me with info of GM where my concerns can be addressed? Is there any possibility to get the Recall direct to GM instead of via local GM-Dealer.
Your reaction will be appreciated.
