I know there have been threads on this many times and if someone will direct me to those threads I would appreciate it. It's tire buying time again. I replaced the runflats with Kumho Supra 712s. I'm not sure I want to go there again. I want a quiet dependable wet/dry tire for my 1998. The Kuhmos have gotten louder and I'm sure some of that is wear. I am approaching 19000 to 20000 miles now. I've gone to tire rack and tires on-line for some ideas but it is nothing like getting user feedback from folks that are very satisifed with their choices.
Thanks,
Bill
I highly recommend the Goodyear GSD3s. They are unbeatable in the rain and excellent on dry roads. I have had mine now for approx. 3000 miles and have absolutely no complaints at all. They still look like they are brand new, even after a couple of very agressive mountain runs.
I am not sure that you can get them in the States, but I went for Pirelli's when I replaced my GY run flats - which where fitted to ZO6 replica chrome wheels. The Pirelli web page showed that there were many combinations, compounds and options that could be used I opted for Pirelli PZero assimetrico's on the rear ( for the power handling and grip) and Pirelli PZero Rosso's on the front( for the resistance to aquaplanning, wieght and comfort). I retained the tire sensors and went back to the original mag rims ( which I powder coated black). The wheels are 10 lbs lighter than before as a result the ride has been transformed and cornering on uneven surfaces is more controlable i.e. less crashy.
It is noticibly quieter and much more grippy in the wet. The initial turn in bite is not as sharp as the run flats and they dont look as good. That said I am pleased with them although I have not fully checked them out in the dry - it being winter hear in the UK.
Well, in the interim while waiting for repsonses I have been doing a lot of reading and went through Tire Rack and some other places. The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s seem to have some really good compliments on quiet and handling in wet or dry. i have read the negative but what the negative represented to me was a problem with a particular make of car then the tire and there was a comment that had to deal with tire pressure inaccuracy on the part of one owner for the tire not performing well. One guy got 39,000 miles off his. This to me was unblieveably high but most are 16k, 19k 20k and still quiet and going strong. You acn get some good tires at lower prices but I don't se the ratings in comparison. i don't mind paying a little higher price if it gives me what I want. I'm about to make up my mind but am still open. Thank you all for your responses. When someone asks a question the responses you get form the forum for themost part are helpful in assisting one to make a decision.

Ditty, Went to the thread you posted. I can understand why you like th Toyos.. the tread pattern is much llike the GS-D3s. The bad thing about On line Tires is they don't seem to give you all the variety of stats as theTire Rack. Found a place here that will beat Tire Rack by actually about the cost of shipping Tire Rack tires to me. So believe I will go see them. Gonna go for the GY GS-D3s looks like.

I know im gonna get flamed 4 this but i hate goodyears like i hate the dentist There to soft and wear out fast and i dont think they grip the road as well like Michelins & Toyo's do! Last summer i ran kumhos 712 supras cause i was a cheap A$$ and it was my first summer with the vette and i knew the tread would go up in smoke quick ,but if not for this reason i would had gotten the toyos. I think alot of guys on this forum dont like Japanese tires 4 what ever reason ,but rest asure there some of the best tires for the money and i would buy them all day long
It's pretty obvious that you haven't tried the GSD3s. They are competitive with any brand, Japanese, French, Korean, etc and have beaten Michelin and Bridgestone in wet surface tests. You really can't go wrong with these tires.
I know a lot of people here seem to like the GSD3’s, but based on my past experience with Goodyear I must agree with ditty22. I have used Goodyear Eagle GT, Eagle GTII, Eagle ST, Wrangler, Eagle VR (gator back), GSC’s, and the Run Flats on various vehicles. The performance of each tire was absolutely terrible! I have no experience with the GSD3’s, but I am not willing to give Goodyear an eighth chance!
I will go with Kuhmo or Bridgestone tires when it’s time to purchase tires for the Vette.
