I just picked up my 02 ZO6 yesterday and I was playing around in it tonight and it stopped accelerating. It idles fine and does not miss or anything , but it has no power at all! A moped could pass me in the merge lane!!! It will not rev above 2K rpm and has a top speed of about 67 (downhill)!!!
I really hope that this is something simple that I don't know anything about. I have no messeges and the dash. Just before this happened, I hit the rev limiter. Not sure if this has anything to do with it. Also , the dealership filled it with 87 octane before I picked it up. I mixed some 93 with it and ran it all out. I cannot think of anything else to mention.
I really hope that this is nothing serious!
Thanks,
James

No, it has almost a full tank.
I drove it home (38 miles), and I had my doubts about making it. It ides and runs fine, just no power.
When it is in gear, you can push the pedal to the floor and nothing happens. It is responsive when you first give it gas , then nothing!
When it revs to 2K, does it miss at that point? or does it run smoothly at 2K, but won't go any higher?
I'm wondering if something is wrong with your drive by wire that prevents the throttle from openning. That would only be a possibility if it runs perfectly smooth to 2K...
SOunds like your in reduced power mode. Either you should take it back to the dealer to check the car out or you need to do a diagnositc of the your PCM.
Let the codes cycle though then check to see what code it is.
I had something similar happen when I was putting the 'Vette back to stock. I had not put the stock air box back together good enough to where when I accelerated rapidly, the area where the coupling connects to the box was pulling off under acceleration. At low speeds, less than 20, it was Ok, but when I tromped on the gas, it lost all power. Found the area where it was opening up and all the "power" was restored.

What was your Vette in the dealership for? Could they have screwed something up?
HI, this is james' wife, i am checking in on this for him. Someone asked what city we're in...were in Richmond, KY. I know he's really bummed about this, we were hoping to get a baby sitter and go for a ride today. He'll be up in about 1/2 - 1 hour. It's 11:30 am now, he just got in bed around 6 am. So he'll be back with you all soon. Thanks for helping out.

Jame's Better half and James. Welcome to Corvette Forum. We are all sorry to hear about your 'challange'. We will help you out as much as possible.
This forum is like one big family. We all try to help each other with different aspects of Corvettes. Dont get too worried "It" will get sorted out and you will really enjoy your new Corvette soon.
You have seriously damaged the engine. I will take it off of your hands and wont even charge you for the tow back to CT.
Please read the codes and list all of them that are listed. It sounds like you are in the REDUCED POWER MODE which is GM's way of letting you get it off of the road safely after the PCM detects a problem with the Throttle Actuation Control circuit or the PCM.
The codes in the DIC will allow us to pin point it down better.

Do I understand correctly... that you just bought this car? How did it act on your test drive?
The 87 octane wouldn't cause what you are experiencing. It might be something as simple as spark plugs, but why should that be your problem? Return to the dealer ASAP! Be sure to let them know you didn't even get home before having a problem.
From: Biloxi MS Theres something happenin' here, What it is ain't exactly clear.....
Mine did this a month or so back.. The battery died on me a few hours from home on a Sunday night. I push started it and every code in the world came up on the DIC. Including REDUCED POWER MODE..
It would go about 4 mph around the parking lot.
I used that to get back to the top of the hill, shut it down, push started it again and this time I had throttle but still tons of codes.. Once I drove it a few miles up the highway with everything but the headlights on, the codes went away..
I put in a new battery the next morning and everything has been fine ever since.
Im sure this is not your case, but maybe this will help someone out in the future when they are stranded.
James, I just bought my '00 coupe from a dealer 2 weeks ago Friday and 2 days later it went into the shop for several ailments. 2 weeks later, this past Friday I FINALLY got her back and all of my issues seem to be resolved. I WAS SICK ABOUT IT FOR THE TWO WEEKS! But everyone on the forum is right ... you WILL get your issue resolved and you WILL love your car. One of my closest friends that manages a body shop and helped me with my decision to purchase my coupe gave me some really good advice ... you bought the car for fun, don't let the nonsense cause it to become a burden (it's still a mechanical being!) ... keep the FUN in ALL of it (the good and the bad) and keep on smilin'. YOU AND YOUR WIFE HAVE A VETTE!!
James test drove the car before buying it, and of course it did wonderfully. I (the wife) drove it home (from Columbus, OH back to Kentucky) It did awsome. I of course fell in love with the car, but I didn't get on it quite like James does! Thanks all for helping, I'm sure when James gets up, we'll start working on the problem. Any more you all can help, it is greatly appreciated. Thanks! -Danita
Please read and post the codes before you wipe the memory. Just resetting all the codes using the RESET button is recommended more than disconnecting the battery. The PCM will have to relearn and some of the symptoms may further confuse the issue.
