Default Clicking Sound

A few weeks ago, developed what I describe as a "clicking" - - sounds like it is coming from directly in front of the driver. This sound is comparable to that made by keys hitting the plastic fob (but it is not)and is also similiar to the directional signal sound but not as consistant. Have tried a stethoscope but cannot pinpoint the sound. Anyone have a similiar problem?

Thats funny...I have the same noise...intermittent, and slightly off to the left of center, just in front of the steering wheel. Ive had the entire dash and cluster out to do the HUD and was looking for something that might have produced that noise but didnt find a thing.

I had the same problem. It actually under the hood.A hose comes in contact with the firewall with the engine shaking. It drove me nuts!!Look directly behind the driverside fuel rail cover. There are a couple of hoses passing around the engine. One of them is too close and i pried it away anb put some rubber tubing around it.Instant fix.Good luck guys!

Found the two hoses running from under the driver's side fuel rail down the firewall. They were fastened to the firewall with a clip and were very tight (could not move them) Got under the car and there was another fastener at the bottom - again could not move them. They were also wrapped with black rubber tubing in each area where the bends came close to the firewall. Placed some thin foam padding best I could behind them.

Still have the clicking. Thanks for the try. Anyone have any other ideas.

I have the same thing!!!...it seems to come from the dash - maybe a tad to the driver's side...like its in the dash itself.

The ticking is not fast, and its intermittent. When it happens, it'll tick every other second or so. It doesn't always do it. I thought it might be temp related, but can't seem to find and relationship. And it doesn't do it all the time.

At first I thought I was going whacko, but after a while, I got my girlfriend to hear it too. It is very subtle. She only heard it once, and now she is backing off of the claim that it exists.

I have a new '04 with less than 5k miles on it.

Default clicking

did this clicking start to happen after you had the clb recall. i have a clicking that you can feel in the steering wheel when you turn it slightly and this started after the clb recall. i beleive someone posted a thread saying it has to do with a pin that holds something in place in the clb assembly and it can be fixed. dont know if this is your problem.

I have not taken the car for the column lock recall procedure yet. I do have the column lock bypass installed - but did that a long time ago and the ticking just started two weeks ago. I guess they could be related. I'll see if I can find any threads on the column lock bypass that mention this sound. Thanks.

I have not had this installed - according to a chart I read, '04 Automatics in North America didn't need it...maybe I should check? Haven't gotten a letter from GM yet either and I've had the car for 5 months now.

The sound is a muted clicking sound...I'd almost call it a knock, but very light. Doesn't seem mechanical.

Honestly, I thought it sounded like an old fashioned mechanical clock tick.

I have the same problem in my 98. In my case its the actuator. Its located under the dash to the left of your steering wheel. It has to do with temp control. One way to check is to turn temp control *** toward heat until it stops. If you remove panel under steering wheel, you can insert your hand and touch it and feel the clicking. The part number is 89018365, the dealer list for $188, if you go to gm parts direct.com they list for $88.45. Good luck

My 02 Z06 developed a strange buzzing noise. Sometimes it would start out as a clicking noise. It was enough to drive you crazy! Ended up pulling the wiper fuse to make the noise stop. Found out that if I also turn the wipers on the noise would stop also.
Car is still under warranty so I took it back. They looked at it 3 times and "could not duplicate the problem" Then the wipers would not park and they had to replace the wiper control module. When I went to pick the car up on Wednesday, I started it up and the buzzing noise started AGAIN. They came out herd the noise and decided that the entire wiper control assembly and motor needed to be replaced. Fixed at at last!!!

Turn on the wipers or pull the wiper fuse and see if the noise goes away.
