Default Power Slot Rotor Problems?

In December of '03, I installed on the front a new set of PowerSlot Rotors and EBC Green Stuff Pads.

It was just pointed out to me by a mechanic that the PowerSlots already have a LOT of heat cracks in them. The car has not even been to a track event since these have been installed. It's all been around town and highway driving (not much stop and go traffic even). I've probably put less than 4,000 miles on the car during this time.

Has anyone else seen this. I'll go talk to TireRack (where I bought them) and PowerSlot, but I'm tempted to go back to stock rotors. They lasted 2 track events and 46K miles!

Thanks!

Karl

Karl

Two weekends on a track is about all ANY rotor can take. Does not matter who made them or where they cam from. The road or street miles are does not matter, it is the heat of hard braking of track use.

D/S rotors wont do it either and may last less time do to the holes. holes accentuate the heat stress and cause cracks faster.
We use the stock equivlent or the raybestos rotors from NAPA or rockauto.com. about $25 each. Most track ppl only get 2 to 3 weekends out of a set of front rotors. and 3 to 5 weekends out of rear set.

So again it is not the company who made or distuted those rotors, it is just they way it is.

Good Luck

Tom,

Please recheck what I said in the posting. The POWERSLOT rotors have NOT been to the track. They have about 4 - 5K street (mostly highway) miles on them.

It was my stock rotors that lasted through 2 track events and 46K miles.

I'm thinking now that if I can get cheap (like < $40) rotors like you do, I may just replace them with every other pad change or so and forget more expensive rotors.

Not been to the track? then there is something wrong with the casting of the rotor. No rotor should have those heat stress cracks from only street miles.

Yes we use the Raybestos rotors from Napa at $25 each

Thanks a LOT for the info!

What pads are you using?????

I hated the Hawk Performance Street pads. They fell apart and I never felt I could stop the car with those on there. The EBC GreenStuff pads seem quite good from what I can tell on the street. The test is always turn 1 at Texas World Speedway!

I'll check on those rotors after I harass the guys at TireRack and PowerSlot.

I'm picking the car up today with newly installed chrome Z06 replica rims and bigger tires. Ditching the wagon wheels, FINALLY!!!!! I'm sure glad the C6 came out with nice wheels from the beginning.

HPS pads were ok for stopping but they had more dust then an Oklahoma dust storm.

I use Wilwood H pads on the track. and on the street vette plan ol GM ZO6 pads.
