Default New headlights soon...

Just an FYI from the "General" forum...

There will most likely be two new headlight systems available by mid year...maybe a little later (disclaimer--things pop up that are unforeseen).

The first will be a popup based kit that will plug and play (no wiring mods required..simple tools to install). It will use relays and direct battery voltage, will use a total of four light sources, two of which (low beam) will be projectors. You will have your choice of going all halogen (smokes the current headlight already) or HID projector low beams/halogen highs. Yes they are DOT approved...there will be a few other nice little options that will be released later.

The second will be a fixed kit using the same options/specs as above. I have seen and heard about a few other fixed kits and believe we can do better and provide a better value.

First milestone is popup protos in halogen...ETA is around May. The light sources I am using are not available until May. Intro sale to occur soon after.

Second milestone is fixed protos in halgoen... ETA is June and same on the intro sale.

I had hoped to have something out quicker but I decided to use newer technology that unfortunately isn't available quite yet.

Is there a kit that uses 200mm rectangular sealed beams or Hella semi-sealed beams ?

The reflectors/headlights are cheap at $38 a piece for a nice Hella (half price of a T84) and it has an extremely nice E-code pattern with the ability of using H4 bulbs with ungodly power ratings.

My kits will use round units...newer than H4 technology.

My problem is that I want something that is readily available. Why not go with the projectors that are out on the the market now? There're plenty of good ones that you can build from. You can always offer the new improved version when the one you are waiting for comes to market. It appears to be unpredictable on when the parts you are waiting for to become available. This project may end up taken much longer than first thought and I believe it is already. I don't need a super version of the HID projector when good version of HIDs are in the market already that will greatly improve from my factory lighting. Sorry, just my thought and I'm just an impatient bast**d. I've been putting off on buying the HID upgrade because I saw your project but I don't know how long I will wait before going with something else. I'll keep watch for awhile longer.

Sportsdude:

Buy your HID's now and you can sell them when the new systems come out...they are always on EBay and people always buy them. It takes too much money to go back and re-engineer something in support of rushing a product out the door...thats a bad business move. It took me a year to build these for my other project and are now in production stage...I learned not to rush things.

Two questions -
With prototypes in May and retails sale units "soon" after that do you anticipate meeting demand before fall?
Do you have a price point yet that you are trying to reach with the new technology?

I took an extended cruise this weekend and on a dark rainy country road could almost not see with the stock lights. I need an upgrade and I like to looks of what I've seen you doing.

The forum vendors I've spoken to seem to only be selling replacement bulbs and add-on ballasts. If I'm going to do this I want a projector system that is engineered for the C5.

I can't answer that. I would like to say yes, but I don't have a good idea what the demand is. And most likely I won't have a good idea until I build the protos and put some pics out. I can pump out a couple hundred kits a month...

Absolutely. But, I am not going to commit myself just yet. My goal is to be sub $600 for exposed/popup halogen and probably $1200 for HID exposed/popup.

schpodie--

Objectives are:
conform to the natural curvey lines of the C5 and enhacne those features with this kit.
Maybe with or without a clear lens
Utilize stock attachment points
4 round modules
Clear lens equipped units may have option for body colored shrouds (ie C6 blacked out vs monochromatic).
Utilize the exact dimensions of the headlight cover as the overall size of the fixed unit.
Integrate it better with the body itself
No exposed screws.

Hope that helps.
