A lot of horror stories beginning to show up on Optima batteries. I'm on my 3rd Optima Red Top in 4 years---Cells keep on going dead. I'll be shopping for something different the next time I need a battery...Good luck w/ your search....

Do not get a Yellow Top as the free replacement warranty period is only 12 months vs 36 months for the Red Top. Doug

I have a megatron battery from Interstate. Zero problems. Car even sits for weeks at a time and then starts right up. My only concern is if it might leak. Thats why people use Optima, then never leak. But I have only heard of 1 battery leaking here anyway, which was the Delco Stock battery.

Whatever the hell you buy....do yourself a favor and hold on to your invoice!! The Optima peeps have a really hard time trying to replace a batt without your invoice!! Myself....I have had now a total of three Optimas go bad in two years on three seperate cars!! I don't think they are what they use to be!! Dunno...maybe its just my luck.

Sounds like you just need to get a name brand battery and convert to a top post battery to avoid leaks.
I have had good luck with Delco batteries if you get one that does not leak. Luckily, I have a 2004 Z06 and the factory went back to top post batteries so I have had no problems.

According to the owner of a local battery shop that sells different types of batteries, including Optima, he said they aren't what they used to be. He recommended I buy an Orbital, which was actually cheaper. Don't ask me about reliability on the Orbital....I've only had it for a month. But coming from a person that sells batteries, he was convincing enough to keep me from buying an Optima.

My Interstate Died in 2 years as one cell was bad and it sucks having to monitor the fluid level which is not necessary in a sealed battery. I had a battery tender on it and it should have lasted longer. This brand is WRONG and I will never buy another one.

My first optima red top in 06 lasted a good 5 years, then went to yellow top and it went 7 years, after that replacement optimas must have been junk because they all went bad after about 1.5 years so I switched to Champion AGM a few years ago and still going strong.
