3.42 Rear End Difference Question - What's the Difference ???
I just purchased a 3.42 2001 Z06 Rear End (Diff.) with 15K miles from a Corvette Forum Member at a Very Reasonable Price. The part # off the Rear End is 12561853. Like I said before, He stated it came off a 2001 Z06 with 15K miles. The current part # for a Z06 Rear End is 12572683. My Question is - What is the difference and will this Rear End fit on my car. I own a 2002 LS1 A-4 with a 2.73 Rear End and bought this one as a performance upgrade....I also plan on installing a Yank SS3600 TC at the same time I do the Swap.......Why did the part # change and is this Rear End as good as the current part # - Is it shot peened and is it compatable with my current set up on my car ( Will it Fit/Work !!!).....Any Expert knowledge would be greatly appreciated !!! Thanks John

I can't answer your technical questions but I can say that "Boy are you going to have fun" with that setup. I recently installed a 3.42 rear IN MY 02 and threw in a 2800 TC and man does she rock!! It is truly another animal with the 3.42 gears. I don't know why Chevy even degrades the Vette by putting in those sorry 2.73 (granny) gears. P.s. Be careful, mod fever will only be enhanced by the mod you plan.
I've since installed milled/ported/polished Z06 heads, a CNC 226/114 CAM, TPIS throttle body, low temp thermostat and an LS1 Dynotune (Edit)........... I digress!! This is about your mods............. enjoy!!!!!!

Fuel economy, like we really care. I want to know if he's going to put the blue lights on it

I can't tell you what the different parts numbers might mean. But I can tell you that the rear you bought will fit your car if it came out of a C5 Z06.
