Ok, so I finally got the caliper bracket bolts off the car and managed to install new baer 1 piece rotors on all of the wheels except the right rear wheel. I got the caliper bolts off and was in the process of removing the old rotor, but it was much more difficult than all of the other wheels. When I finally pulled it off, a piece of metal fell out from behind the rotor. The piece of metal is pictured below. I have no idea what damage I have done although I am assuming it has something to do with the e-brake. Any help you be greatly appreciated. thanks
Also, is there any easy way to fix what I have done?
It probably just pops back in there..is there a similar piece on the other side?? I don't remember from doing mine...I am sure Evil Twin or Patches could tell ya

I cant be sure because I had no problems with the other side. The rotor just slid off without problem on the left rear.
It's just a retaining clip for the e-brake shoes. It's not easy to describe, but in your 2nd picture you can see another clip that looks like the one that fell out. All you have to do is find the clip locator and snap the clip back into place. It's takes a little giggling, but it will go in!

In the second picture I just placed the one that fell out back into the parking brake assembly to show whereabouts it had fallen from. I cant really figure out how to snap it back in though.
WOW, this is freaky!!! I just had the same thing happen to me last weekend. I could not get it to stay in there as the other side was. I just said..."the heck with it and clipped it where it went, pushed the shoes over it and installed the rotor. I figured if the e brake would not hold or if it made an aweful sound I would take it the dealer and let a pro look at it...did I say a pro at a dealer????? Anyway, no problems at all. My brakes are fine. BTW make sure you tighten down all the lugs before you start to move the car.....don't ask me why I said that!!! :o

Thanks for the support. I just finished up, clipped it in where I though it came from and installed the new rotor and wheel. Everything seemed fine on the test drive. I have an automatic so I dont use my ebrake often, thankfully.

Per the service manual, you need to remove the whole mess. However, there are instructions on the forum (if the search function actually worked) by WhiteVette??? who is from TN and has a white Jeep in his signature. He described a way to properly re-install this spring without pulling the whole thing apart. Not sure where you re-installed this piece, but if it gets loose it could cause problems down the road.

I tried to do a search for whitevette, but came up negative. Anyone have his exact handle? thanks
Iceman, just installed my 2 pc fronts and 1 pc rears last weekend, left side rotor just came right off, left side was a biotch and the clip fell to the floor, the clip goes inside of the e-brake shoe assembly and clips to the rotor backing plate,it is a mfer to get back on but it can be done,if you like you could call me and I can run you through it,408-640-7914-john
i had to remove the wheel bearing and the knuckle off the lower control arm to get my spring back in (takes < 1 hour), don't worry about it, we can take care of it this w/e
