If your car is a street car, removing your cats is probably not a good idea. The biggest issue is the smell, especially from cammed cars.

These high flow cats now available give you the best of both worlds. Good flow and no smells, not to mention being able to pass the smog test!

Been cat-less since purchasing my LGM's last September. I'll be putting R/T cats on next month. Too much stink

I have an '04 A4 with LTs, x-pipe and Borla catback and RT catalysts. I still occasionally smell the exhaust smell...and the smell isn't like normal exhaust(gassy) nor is it like normal catalysts(sulphur). Its somewhere in between, with a more 'metallic' smell.

I cannot even imagine what it would be like taking the cats off.

Thanks to all who responded, I will be leaving the cats on, who wants stink for minimal gain. And, I guess, there's that whole breathing thing too!
