Reset it and forget about it. If it comes back within the next 2 weeks, then think about performing work. I have read other threads where people have had the same code and after resetting, it didn't come back. Personally, I have had this code happen about 4 times in 4 years. I just reset and forget about it. Car runs fine and passes emissions with no problems.
thanks for the info....i did try to reset it and it came back after about 30 miles.... i'll give it a week if it's still being a pita i'll try bill curlees short cut
i drove with mine throwing p1416 for a year. it only seemed to do it when it was cold outside and when the car was sitting still. i finally replaced the passenger a.i.r. check valve recently and it fixed the problem. the old one was clogged up. the check valve cost me about $20. i dont know how in heck some people on here have been able to do it w/o removing the intake. it took me 2 or 3 hours all together. make sure you have a 1" wrench.
We currently have this problem with our 97. Had the code for a year...now with new NYS inspection...light=fail so we had the valve replaced. Before replacement the code would come up after 10mins or 10miles. After replacement it came up after 56miles. Just replaced a airpump hose...praying that does it in for good.
Update:Today it came back yet again. This time after 87miles and after idleing for a second. Anyont have any ideas? Why did GM not put quality into these C5s

Bill, is the line that runs behind the intake not attached to anything other then the connections at the exhaust manifold? I thouht there was a braket that the check valve was attached to that was bolted to the block.
Another possible solution to removing the checkvalve behind the intake is to use an impact wrench. Another mechanic had told me about this method. By using long extensions, you can reach the valve with a socket. The reason for using the impact wrench, is to avoid damaging the metal A.I.R. line.
I have code P1416 on my Z06, and will be trying this in the near future.
About 3 weeks ago, I got this code after backing onto the street from a steep driveway (slowly, but I scraped pretty hard). I reset it when I got home to see if it would come up again, and it hasn't come back since.
