Code C1287 Steering Sensor rate malfunction. Any Fix?
My car throw's this code when moving or sitting still. Have any of you had this problem. I did a search and didn't pull up much. While driving the car will pull slightly to the right or left and ACITIVE HANDLING is displayed on the DIC. Also while breaking the pedal flutters and ACTIVE HANDLING is displayed again. It is really making me nervous when driving, I don't want it to pull me into the wall or anything so I just disengage the whole system. Any help would be appreciated before I break down and take it to the dealer.

You might have two things going wrong at the same time. When my '99 showed the 1287 code, it was the steering position sensor at the bottom of the steering column that had gone bad. Not an easy fix, requiring column removal to replace it. As to the pulling to the right or left and the Active Handling display, that might be signs of another malfunction (such as a front hub assembly going/gone bad?). I'll let someone else chime in on that one, since I have not experienced that.
