Do a long (time wise at least 10-15 second) burnout. Release the clutch quickly (first gear) as soon as the tires start to spin apply the brakes with your left foot in order to keep the car from moving. ........................................ ....
I just came from the track- 97 coupe, 315's and run flats...when I got to the burn out pit- I turned off traction control...put my foot on the brake, one on the gas and let them loose...it would have burned till the tires were gone...The torque will overcome brake force any time...unless you have half your spark plugs out...yours should do the same...
What track you running at? I see your're in Florida. I would like to put some money on this. And you mention "the burn out pit". You mean the water box? Strange terminology for a drag racer. More
A burnout while on the brakes is completly possible. Rear brakes make up for very little of braking so when you actually do hit brakes maybe 30% is rear and the front is 70% (don't know what it is precisley but probably near that.) Anyways the power of the car easily over comes rear brakes allowing a burnout no line lock needed. The trick is to know how to do it correctly, you can't let the clutch go and then slam on brakes you will just bog and look really stupid. You have to get on them just enough to not allow fronts to turn. Only down side is you are going to go through rear pads really fast. But your right misinformation on here make me want to
Another one. Front brakes wear due to weight transfer. They work more than the rear because of that. I'll guarantee a good set of breaks cannot be defeated by spinning tires. More
Hey guys, I didn't mean to start a flame war! Nonetheless, I do appreciate all the info.
I am going to run the car again next week at the drags using a much softer launch technique to minimize wheel spin...hopefully I can break into the thirteens this time!
What you presented was a lot of bull. Run flats don't get sticky. You can't do a burnout holding your foot on the brake. And a 13 sec car can't do better than 1.90 even with DR's.
So much misinformation here it makes me want to
Your right that run flats don't get sticky... getting sticky is about having rubber compounds that get really soft when heated. Run Flats do not use these compounds in the tires.
However, what we used to refer as brake torque'ing.... spin the rear tires while holding the brakes on enough the front tire keep the car from moving.... he!! yes, that was a blast. In your Vette the brake porportioning valve is set up so that about 80% of braking is done up front... and 20% from the rears.
While driving, you hit your brakes and the car nose dives... placing tons of weight on the front tires... allowing for lots of braking power because of the high traction. The rears are the opposite, the rear of the car lifts up causing less traction. Hence the reason for porportioning of the brakes from front to rear.
So.... it is easy to over power the stopping abiblity of the rear brakes with the power of the engine.

ummm actually the weight transfer may be true but brakes are biased more to the front anyways. If they where evenly balanced when a person did brake hard the car would transfer weight and the rears would lock up. also Why is there be the brake bias spring??? when you put one in(for the older c5's) you don't magicly change weight transfer.... you are puting more bias to the rear. If you can not spin tires by power braking your car is severly under powered.... maybe you should take it back to the dealer.
Since you know sooooo much just a quick ? for you. how come i see auto and stick shift cars at the track doing burnouts... with no line lock and they are staying in place....??? In fact i have done it. Oh Oh i forgot it must be that magical fairy that installs a line lock that i can't see because we all know that is the only way to do a burnout....

thanks good to see someone here knows what they are talking about..

The track is Moroso MotorSports Park in Palm Beach- and what exactly are you wanting to put money on?? a burn out or smoking the tires with the brakes on?? I would take your money my sarcastic friend anytime you wish...oh, and excuse the newb track guy by referring to the "water box" as a "burn out pit"... nary did I call my self a drag racer...I said what I said because thats what it did...once the tires were smoking I let the brakes go and I just sat there inching ever so slowly forward while the tires were cooking...hell, there was even a front wheel drive car doing this...next time I go- I will send you an invite...and show you how to power brake an automatic...
Christ- the inept attitude of people who think they know everything is friggin' unbelievable sometimes...I wish I had a dime for every smart *** comment that some insist on having because they "Think" they know everything about everything...bring your money...please, bring your money...

Ok I get it. This is an April Fools joke.
Fact: I have turned a 1.93 sixty foot time on run-flats with a MN6.
Fact: I can do a stationary burnout for as long as I like while holding my foot on the brake.
Fact: I have turned a 1.82 sixty foot time on DR’s in a 13 sec LT1 Camaro.
None of these things are uncommon.
QUOTE “And a 13 sec car can't do better than 1.90 even with DR's.” You’ve got to be kidding me!!! Have you ever actually been to a drag strip? Talk about
You sir are the one who is spreading misinformation.
I apologize to the originator of this thread for this controversy. I merely attempted to relay to you my real world experience regarding launching a MN6 car on run-flats.

What happens when you step on the brake. My wheels quit turning, don't yours? To do a 10 or 15 sec burnout like he said to do you need a line lock. Now ask me what that does. OK, I'll tell you. It locks the front two brakes and allows the rear wheels to spin.
I'm going to turn this over to Mark (mwagne16) and go back to the drag forum where I belong.
Thanks for the correction. I hope to go down with Marc.
Bob
Good maybe the FUZZY PINK GUY will find a trailer for his garage queen and you guy's can all come down together. Of course this months race theme is going to be which one of us puts Marc on the trailer and what round Bob
You doing that with the foot brake? Alright, alright I'll quit and try to be nice.
I don't think we can get Fuzzy down there. I did everything but go get him and tie him up for last week.
Marc and myself will be at Bradenton the Thur before we head south to Moroso. Damn good cheese burgers and a lot of practice. Maybe we could turn it into an unofficial Corvette Challenge. Loser buys the cheese burgers.
Wow! I just started looking at this site and already I've got confused feet. So, when I get my BFG DR's at what rev. do you lunch so that you don't do a burn out at the line? As for the burn outs - I guess I'll just have to practice on some dead end street to see what works better - "brake-on" "brake-off" grasshopper!
