Default quarter panel removal

Hey ya'll,

This is my first time in tech section.

I want to disassemble the body on my 02 Coupe. The GM service manual says that I have to cut the quarter panel in the area where the painted roof piece comes down in between the door window and back window. It says you have to cut out that area to get to a screw or two holding the 1/4 panel in place. I don't believe this could be accurate considering if these screws were inaccesable, how did they get in there?

Can somebody in here let me know how to remove the 1/4 panels propperly.

Thanks,
Cliff

FRC Tom on here or Z06vette.com can show you his whole car apart..and he did cut the piece you are referring to..

Are you sure your reading the section of the manual for the coupe? I'm pretty sure that only the FRC (hardtop) has hidden screws on the fenders. Look at the manual again make sure your reading the coupe section.

And yes, on a FRC GM puts on the fenders installs all the screws and then glues on the top covering 5 screws! Way to go GM!

Remove the corresponding tail lamp from the side you are removing.

Inner back structure, there are roughly 4 bolts holding the back of the panel to the rear bumper. Should be 10mm

Remove tire from corresponding side.

Remove 3 T-15 screws from door sill area holding fender on.

Remove 9/32 bolt from inside of the fender well that holds panel secure.

There are 2 10mm bolts holding the lower rear of the panel secure. They are a pain to get to unless you are in the air, or the rear bumper is removed.

Should be approximately 4 T-15 Torx bits holding the top of the fender to the body pan.

Is the roof piece between the glass top and back window glued on? If so, does anybody have a good moethod for removing it?

BTW, I'm taking this car apart to paint it.
