Default Seats Gone Crazy

I bought a 1999 M6 with 30K miles a couple weeks ago. Everything is great except the seats and the memory. Memory #1 has been fine until today, when shuting off the car the driver seat moved forward instead of back. The telescoping steering wheel has quit working, and the passanger seat makes an intermitted motor sound for a few seconds at a time. Memory#2 has never worked.
I also noticed the fog lights were on today without the headlights or parking lights being on, just daylight running lights.
I have used the search and found a few threads that were a couple years old that point to the battery. I could not find any that someone came back and said that a new battery fixed everything. I thought I would ask you kind people for your thoughts and help. Thanks.

Hey bro! A battery on the way out can give you some weird sh*t, as well as a faulty ground connection. There is a real good thread on here about chassis ground problems and how to clean and repair all the chassis connectors. If a battery isn't the problem, you might search for the thread and give that a try. Good luck!

The functions that you describe are all controlled by the BCM. If the BCM is malfuncting and telling all of these functions to do weird stuff, try this:

1. Look in the passengers foot well area. Remove the toe board and find the BCM. Silver box in the picture!

Check the carpet carpet underlayment and the BCM and see if they are wet or show signs of being wet in the past!

That area has a bad habit of wetting things! Look for water/moisture and write back

Also, anytime that you have an issue with your car, check the DTC codes that are stored in the DIC memory and post them. If you have active or History codes, it will tell us a LOT obout what is going on with your electrical system.

Here is a link to a web site that will tell you all about the codes and how to read them.

A6 SCM (B2605H)

Clear the History codes and see what new codes appear.

One more thing guys, I talked to the previous owner and he said he had a new Delco battery put in last year. He also said he had to jump start the car the week before I bought it, which was two weeks ago. When I drive the voltage varries between 14.1v and 13.7v. What do you guys think? Thanks again.

Shylor after I clear the codes do I drive it around for a while and then check it? Thanks! As you can see I have no experience with computer controlled cars. It's not like my old 72 Camaro.

Before you drive the car, remove the battery cables and check the condition of the battery terminals and the cable terminals. Look closely for white corrosion deposits. Clean them well with a small stainless steel wire brush and reattach them Positive first and then Neg. ""TORQUE" them on with a torqoe wrench to 11 ft/lbs. Bad battery connections are a common cause for C4 and C5 electrical issues.
This problem got me just yesterday!! I am meticulus about battery connections and ground connections and it still zapped me!

The wife had the car out for a spin and called me to report that the check engine light was on! I told her to check the codes. I trained her well!! She report an A$$ load of codes. More than I could write down and a lot of them were U1000 type codes. I knew immediately that it was an electrical power thing. Had her check the battery cables and aure as hell the negative cable could be moved by hand! Gremli ns,,,, I hate them!!!

I had her tighten it up, clear the codes and she was good to go!

At first I thought it was an April fools joke! But it wasnt

I've just gone through a ton of codes on my Z06 because of a low battery condition. One issue was my column would not lock after shut down. After resetting a fuse and clearing all the codes, everything was fine. As others have stated, low battery conditions cause all kinds of unrelated codes to show up.

Tarkdog, You do know how to clear the History codes correct? But yes you can drive the car around, even though that really isn't needed. Just start it up, if the same problems exist the codes will show up again.

I just removed the drivers seat and discovered that one of the two harnesses was completely disconnected. My telescoping wheel did not work, and my drivers side outside mirror would randomly adjust itself. The clip on the connector had broken. I got a long narrow tie wrap and wrapped it around the broken connectors between the two rows of wires. Viola- the wheel telescopes now.

The positive cable and terminal was corroded. Tha battery had a small amount of rust colored corrosion on the terminal. The cables had a blueish green and white corrosion. I romoved the battery and there was corrosion in the bottom of the battery stand holder. This looked like it was old and it had rusted the frame some.
I cleaned this area up and it did not appear to have got onto the computer or associated wiring. I cleaned the cable and battery terminals. The battery is about a year old, the previous owner had replaced it with another freakin Delco. I put everything back together and took it for a spin. All seems to be well. There is no codes, voltage was 14.5 for a while and then stayed at 14.2.
The telescopic steering still no worky I checked under the seats for loose connections, could not see any so I'm grabbing a beer and heading back out to pull the seat.

I had the same problem, pulled my CLB off so I could get the recall done, and it started working fine again. I have no clue if the two were related, but I have left the CLB off just in case.

My telescopic steering is still not working. I took out the drivers seat and cleaned the connectors with electra clean. The were in good shape no faulty wires so I hooked it all back up. Still nothing. I checked every fuse in both fuse blocks, all were ok.
I took the car for a short ride, to nice of a day not to, and then checked for codes, no codes. I am stumped! Could it still be the battery? I am out of ideas. Please keep the ideas coming. The upside is I am getting to know my car real well.
JR Vette, I do not have the CLB yet. It should be here by Tuesday. I just ordered one from Thunder Racing last week. Thanks again to everyone, I would be completely lost without all the help.

Does the column go in and out with the switch and just not move by memory? More than likly you have a connection issue Look under dash for unplugged connectors.

The telescopic dosn't work at all and the pisser is its stuck in the fully retracted position. I'm 6'4" and I need the seat all the way back with the wheel out so I'm not reaching.
By the way NOT-MEE Love you car! Mine is a white 99 coupe with a 6. Love that white

Are you positive the fuse is good for the telescoping steering wheel system?
