Default Best way to remove/ install steering rack?

I removed the steering rack assembly last night and it wasn't easy. The two mounting bolts, two cooler bolts, two tie rod end nuts and steering shaft bolt were removed; the assembly was pushed to the passenger side then up and to the drivers' side so it came out over the drivers' side fender. No tubes or hoses were disconnected. Is there a better way to do this?

Man, I've never seen anybody do it like that. Sounds a heck of a lot better than pulling it out through the driver fender well like I did with mine on my h/c install. Last couple I helped with on h/c and s/c installs, we just moved it over to the passenger side of the engine bay as far as it would go and left it there 'til we were done withe the front of the motor.

Go to the Magnacharger web site and check out the instructions for pinning the crankshaft pulley. Great photo's and the precedure seems straight forward, although I have yet to do it.

Sounds like you eliminated the step that involves loosening the cradle and then wedging a block between the cradle and frame to open the hole large enough to slide the rack straight out (well you have to twist it out).

Sounds like your way is better

I just unplug the elec connector, unbolt the two hoses, the tie rods and the rack mounts and slide it out the pass. side.

I loosened the engine cradle bolts which increased the gap between it and the frame. I was able to take it out of the drivers side fender well. Its pretty much a messy pain in the *** no matter what. I just now visited the magnacharger website and did it like they mentioned.

I do it the same way. It's really not that bad of a job when done as above.
