Default Good Battery? Not Optima

I am getting a new battery soon. I wanted to know what is a good leak proof battery for the C5. Since all I hear around here is that Optimas suck ***, I am not buying one.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Optimas arent bad at all. I have all my cars running with them on. With a 36-month "no questions asked" replacement, how can you lose?

I agree not all optimas are bad. I have had one going in my mustang for over 7 years now. And one in my vette is going on 3 years old.

If you don't want an Optima, it's hard to go wrong with an Interstate. They're the "Cadillac" of batteries, and I've had zero problems with them after many years of running them in all my vehicles.

I'm with the Wolfman, bayba.

Mixed results on the Optima, according to the three forums I read. It's the choice for several folks here, but not so much in other vehicles.

Sam's has a gel cell battery by Exide/Champion of the same type as the Optima.~$75. Had one for a few years, no problems.

I've seen a few threads now discussing problems with OPTIMAs
Whereas I still have my OPTIMA, I have received a low voltage message on the DIC. Also, if I dont start the car for a week, she will struggle to start.

A friend of mine says his car was totally dead if he did not start his car for 2 weeks. With all these complaints, me thinks its fair to say there is some legitamacy to OPTIMA's being problematic.

I went with the Exide Orbital, $100, more cranking power than Optima, same type of design. Also mounts just like stock.

I had the yellow top in my last Cadillac with a high power stereo and a high power amateur radio system. Never had a problem with it. The reports I've seen seem to show problems after the car has been stored...just what I've seen on the forum.

The Exide gel is a good alternative if you don't like Optima.

There are WAY too many people that use the Optima batteries with excellent results compared to the VERY few here that have problems.
