FYI, I have a set of B&B shorties for sale. Excellent condition, 8K miles.
Made 12HP/ 14T on the dyno. $425.00 shipped UPS to CA. I went with long tubes and no cats. No way that will fly in CA, huh!
Be very careful the semi-annual smog test is not the only way the state busts non compliance. Street racing, random check points are only a couple of ways of getting into trouble. Fines are heavy and jail time is possible. The rice racers are favorite targets but anyone is fair game. I have been through this-NO FUN. By the way shorty headers aren't much better than stock exhaust especially Z06 manifolds. Some people have actually reported a power loss. -Bob
I have never herad of any power loss' in regards to shorty headers! Corvette Magazine did a full write up with BBK Shorty Headers and got 16 RWHP gain on the dyno and picked up 8 more after 300 miles of driving! So I would disagree! This was on a 99 C% and not a ZO6 by the way!

I just finished an SB100 registration of my Cobra replica. Part of that process involves a BAR inspection and a one time only smog test(SB100 registration is forever after smog exempt). I had a very interesting conversation with the BAR district supervisor who administered my test. Yes, midnight street racers are a frequent target of sting operations but beyond that they have portable sniffers that they can set up roadside. Whether or not they will be able to detect a clean running late model Vette is debatable but take it from someone who has had a run-in with the BAR- it's expensive and nerve racking and when you spit out the other end you will be a believer. -Bob
I sure would ideally hope that "law" enforcement personnel would have better things to do with their time other than carry around a portable 'sniffer' and check out car-farts....
I don't recall any ads and let me correct myself it was not B&B either it was BBK and it was on the (Corvette Magazine website), so there was NO add! Also, they showed the actual install with the mechanics and on the DYNO results. It really doesn't matter anyway, like I stated before, and I even go further than that this time, there is NO, and there will be NO power loss after installing BBK or B&B Shorty headers on either a 97, 98 C5. That much I know. Yes it will me minor gains compared to Long Tube headers, but for us guys who are NOT loaded and want to stay legal, because it is the LAW, I think we have the right to have Shorty's without hearing all the negative BS between Short's or Long’s. Personally, I do not have $1,800 dollars to throw away with kids still at home. However $499.00 Dollars and 299.00 to install shorty's on my car for a little gain and eye candy is more sensible to me IMO. To each his own.
