Might have a beat on some 17" skinnies from Coker tire. They are trying to get me a speed rating on the tire that seems to fit the bill (4" tread width, 26" tall, blackwall bias ply etc.) Seems alot of guys have been running the Firestones which I believe aren't speed rated as well. Might buy these till M&H produces their 17" speed rated front runners they are scheduled to come out with sometime this year (perhaps only a few months away).
By the way...Phil...thanks for the tip on Coker's Tire.
Regards,
Tony
PS...Now I just have to move forward with narrowing a set of Z06 rims.
there are NO speed rated, bias ply drag racing tires ( fronts or rears).
not m&h, not m/t, not hoosier.
speed rating relates to the tires ability to undure the heat buildup of SUSTAINED, high speed, driving.

As per John at M&H, they will be producing "speed rated" front runners in 16" and 17" sizes in the next few months....perhaps he can chime in here and further clarify. I ordered some 17 X 4.5 inch new tires from Coker's Tires yesterday made by Excelsior (?)....they are "P" rated (94 MPH sustained) but I'm thinking the tires everyone else has been using are probably no different. I will replace them with the new M&H's when they are finally produced.
I too have been considering cutting down a 17 inch wheel an running a 205 Radial up front. I run MT Drag Radials now. I have a set of ET Streets but I tried the new ET Street Radials this season and I really like them. It also cost less to get safe wheels under the car and no more drifting in the traps.
I want skinnies to reduce the weight and wind resistance up front when I race.
Heck I have a buddy that uses motorcycle tires on a cut down 17" wheel up front. He runs NOS and dives into the 10's. He's got more guts than I have because I would be scared to see the load rating on those tires he runs.

For the fronts!
Tony - you might want to contact Bogart Wheels as they were supposedly very close to releasing their C5 drag package. Won't be cheap, though.
Pricing hadn't been released when I last contacted them, but since I needed something sooner than later, I just bit the bullet and went with CCWs. They're great, I just wanted something different.

I called Bogart about 4 times before buying my CCW package a few months ago. I really dont like how the CCWs look and the fronts are heavy as crap too.
I dont think they willl be anymore expensive than the CCWs though. 1800 a set is pretty damn high for racing wheels.
I considered the motorcycle tires but my big concern there was the crown in the tire....your not doing too much turning with that set-up (unless you learn how to lean and countersteer your Vette ) I also wanted a set-up I could drive (slowly) to a Friday night burger stand/midnight activity center. I thought a crowned tire on the street would be suicide for any type of cruising around. Probably a great totally dedicated track set-up though. I'm moving forward on my idea of narrowing a pair of Z06 17 inch rims for the front. They should be arriving tomorrow. I will take some pics along the way and a few of the finished product. Plus, I LOVE the stealth factor and having a stock looking very lightweight functional package.

One advantage of the ccw skinnies (firestones) is that they are bulletproof and can be driven to and from the track(over 100 miles) with little to worry about. Some of the other skinnies are more delicate and less reliable in travel and even on the track.
ya I was just shocked when I was helping my buddy work on his car last week and lifted his skinnies and I was like these weigh about half of what mine do.
