Default How much brake fluid to flush system?

I would like to completely renew the brake fluid in my '03Z. I understand the procedure and am using a power bleeder from Motive. I also understand the sequence. I will also siphon as much of the old fluid out of the master cylinder as possible (turkey baster). How much fluid should I allow per line/caliper to assure complete replacement? I have 6 ea. 12oz. containers and am hoping that is plenty. Anyone know the total capacity of the brake system?

Gramps

I use a 50 cc syringe to syphone out the old brake fluid. The turkey baster was too messy for me. I got the syringe at a home improvement store in the lawn and garden section next to all the two cycle products. it is used to mix the oil-gas for two cycle engines.

rember brake fluid will damage paint, keep a rag handy.

It will take about a quart to fully bleed your system. So purchaing two quarts will do the trick. One to bleed and almost only to fill your system.

Good Luck

2qts....if you don't have speed bleeders I would recomend you get some..makes the job so much easier...that and some small clear hose to attach to the bleeder valve...

i was told 2 qts .. but I think that's really only if all the fluid in the lines are really nasty .. i only used 1.5 qts when i did mine. But it's nice to have extras .. not something you want to be running out of in the middle of the job.

I had speedbleeders on my old car and they made bleeding brakes so wonderfully easy.

Anybody know what the part #'s are for a Z06?

Thanks,
Jason

Not a turkey baster, but the syringe that can be bought at grocery store to inject flavorings under the skin of said turkey. Also, I made a catch jar from a Jif jar, 1/4" nipple, 1/4" tubing and a piece of coat hanger wire. The nipple is epoxied through the jar lid.

You don't, I use the motive powerbleeder on my Vette's and M3. More expensive than speed bleeders but you can see the the fluid coming out to ensure you have a complete bleed to the new fluid

I use ATE and alternate colors to ensure I have new fluid through the whole system
