Default oil consumption after re-ring???

Has anyone experienced any oil consumption problems after the car has be re-ringed?

I have to watch my oil again, but I swear in the last 600 miles I have gone through 3/4 qt of oil which is on par for what I use to burn before the re-ring (1 qt. for 800 miles).

I know that I have been racing the car at the 1/4 mile now so that might have something to do with it, but many have told me that after the re-ring they don't burn any oil.

thanks

Something is not right there, the re-ring should stop the oil consumption. That sounds a little excess and I don't thing the drag racing should cause that

Re-ringing was only a halfway fix for what was a design flaw.[1] They raised the top ring location.[2] they went to a low tension ring. Only drivers who did a lot of spirited driving had a problem. Of course combine that with a bad redesign of the PCV system. My 98 does not use a drop of oil in 6000 miles, the line from my PCV to the TB is bone dry.All they do is replace the top ring with a higher tension ring. For some reason at rpms above 4000 the top ring still flutters some allowing some oil to get by and of course if you havent installed a catch can for oil coming from the PCV, you lose oil there.

well this would make sense then. Since the re-ring I have started racing the 1/4 mile and the car is constantly above the 4K mark. I guess I will have to live with it because I am not having them take my engine apart again, but I will make a note with my GM Tech.

Dear Lost,

I have a 2000 6spd. coupe. I burned about a quart in 2,500 miles, using BMW (Castrol) 5w30 synthetic oil this past winter. I am on my first Corvette, and find that I don't have to boot it hard too often because it scares the sh*t out of me even <4000 rpm. I would like you to hear more about the PCV issue. I'm hearing about more and more cars that are sucking motor oil into the TB via the PCV, different makes, that is, Toyota specifically. Is this the case with first generation LS1's, and is the fix easy?

Thanks,
Bluemill

Had my 02' Z06 re ringed last year, since then it seems to use about a quart every 2500 miles or so. I guess I can live with that, beings I don't want the delaership to have my engine apart again, as well. Makes me nervous every time I have to take it to the dealer. I have learned more about my Z06 on this forum than any of their so called mechanics or "guru's" seem to know about the car!

I had my Y2K re-ringed last year. I went 700 miles after the re-ring and the tech wanted to change the oil. He changed it and I went 2200 miles and no lost of oil. At 2200 miles, I had ECS install the TR224 cam, and I noticed I was low maybe a 1/2 quart about 300 miles after the cam change. I didnt check, but I think it was just oil loss during the exchange in the cam and oil pump. I just changed my oil yesterday, and next year Ill know if I used oil. I only go about 3000 miles a year.
I think I drive the car harder after the bolt ons and cam, but I dont think it burned the oil, I think it was loss during the change of parts.
