Hello all.
I am new to this board and am looking for info on bodykits for the c5 vette. Has anyone installed or in the process of installing the following body kits from this place?
I am curious in the little nick nacks that come with installing the body. I have talked to one of the fellows at the shop and they told me it can be done. But most people chop the top also??? Is it really necessary? I want this to still be a street legal car. With everything functional.
Well from what I have been told. Individuals that do buy the C6 wide body for pro racing purposes( for example) they chop(cut) the pillars to lower the roof. I am not really sure why they have to do this since the roof is already low enough.
The only reason I am even looking for a bodykit like the one I mentioned on my first post, is because I love to tinker on my cars. Since the c5 vette comes more then well equiped stock. I will not have to worry about upgrading to much stuff. Just cams, exhaust, intake. Brake pads and rotors. And possibly suspension shocks. Which would be replaced by c6 parts.
If I can just locate an almost Identical C5-r Kit I would jump on it. Complete with exact hood etc.

Man, where do you get your information? I've been this game a long time, and have no idea what you're talking about. Race teams do not cut pillars to lower roofs. I'm laughing out loud as I'm typing this!! Come on man, do a little research.
I took a look.. Does not look tooo bad.. But I'll look around a bit more.
For some reason those rims on that car just does not look right. I guess I am too picky. Thus far this :
is the best I have found as of yet in my opinion for a wide body. I'm sure their is someone out there with a more authentic look of the C5-R.
Just that this:

Uh-oh... you sure they do not cut their pillars? Oh geez.. gullible Gus has been had again.
In all honesty Kerry from corvette race bodies told me this. I knew it did not sound right to me which is why I am asking questions. I've been into cars for a long time, and dropping the top of a car is not to uncommon. I have barely migrated to vettes and well there's the reason to my ignorance.
How long have you been in "this game" ? And have you competed or participated in any professional teams before?
I know they take the factory Halo bar out, but that is replaced by the roll cage, so it isn't needed and they save some weight, but they don't chop the top like the old school hotrod guys do.
Like Lancer33 said, they chop the halo bar out because it's replaced by a roll cage. The halo bar is pretty heavy, so the roll cage helps it lose weight from the top of the car. With the new roof, I don't believe the windows will be able to work properly due to the roof coming into the compartment to provide better air flow around the cockpit.
The ACP/corvetteracebodies kits are awesome. They're made for racing, and really do work. The C5West kit, on the other hand, looks like it was made as part of an elementary classroom art project.
i just got my hood. fantastic...if the rest of their kits are of this quality you cant go wrong. send me your e mail and ill send pics when it is painted and on the car. jpmarkel@montana.net

ACP rocks they did my body and do the World Challenge bodies and Used to do Trans Am bodies before some dirty dealings by SCCA. Quality products from a person who raced Vettes for 30+ years.
The C5 west is no match and I have seen some bad threads on them here.
Does anyone have pics of the roll cages used on the cars that use corvetteracebodies kits? Geez if I can locate a place here in San Diego to go see and take pics. I sooo wanna see how the improvement is.

This is the car David Farmer is building. Click on C6-R construction for more details.
you could also check out LG Motorsports. They are currently running their car in the Speed WC. Remember, The C6-R body is designed for a RACE CAR, not a street car, and you've got do do a lot of work (move the rear wheels back 1.5 inches) to make it work)
