Where can one get a good price on the Bassani 421 headers? I've heard good things about them and, since I live in California, I like that they're applying for a CARB certification for the product. Any GPs currently going on?
You may want to speak with Bassani, I believe they withdrew their application for CARB. You might also want to check out QTP, also a Tri-Y design but stainless, the Bassani's are coated steel. Vinci also carries the Bassani.
I called Bassani two days ago and was told to speak to Todd in R&D about the application for CARB certifiaction, but he never got back to me. They said that because these headers mount up to the stock cats which remain in the stock position, that they will pass the smog visual check. But it's always safer to have the CARB certification, isn't it? Are the Q headers smog legal in California?
BTW, Corvette Fever online has an interesting article on the Bassani headers and some very flattering comments by Vinci who carried out the installation.
If they mount to the existing cats, they can't be the same ones. I think Bassani makes a few different versions, including shorties, and those may be the ones he was referring to.
Hi, BigBen. I really don't think they're playing any games. It's a lengthy and expensive process. Each time they apply it costs $2500. and they can fail many times. So they want to make sure they're going to have some chance of succeeding before they continue the process. I have to call them back at month's end to find out if they're going to continue,

Like others said, "don`t hold your breath!"
They have been singin this song for "over" two years!
I finally got tired of waiting and bought QTP`s, since they`re all stainless they are much better quality.
Hi, R.P. You make it sound as though QTP's headers have a CARB certification. Is that true? Do they really?
Thanks,
Eriks98
Hi Erik,
No, QTP`s "do not" have CARB certification, in fact no mid/long tube headers do to my knowledge!
One of the reasons I choose the QTP`s is, like others, I got tired of waiting for Bassani to obtain their certification.
I still wanted a tri-y design due to the fact that I set my car up for canyon driving, ie: low/mid range power band while maintaining good top end.
The other reason I choose QTP`s is that I felt their stainless construction is far superior IMO, the fact that all four oxygen sensors are retained in near stock positions was another plus.
I don`t think you can go wrong with any of the top brands including Bassani, just don`t hold your breath for CARB certification any time soon.
