Now I don't know anything about transmissions and rearends nor did I stay at a holiday inn express lately..BUT does this one require limited slip additive like the stock GM rears do?? Is it possible that this is your problem?? Just guessing....
Good luck.
We do need you to verify a few of things first that may save you some time and money if the differential isn't producing the noise.
1. Verify with 100% certainty that the noise is indeed coming from the differential by putting the car on a lift and running the wheels in the air while someone is under it with a stethoscope on the differential case.
2. Verify with 100% certainty that the installer didn't take the car out and go full throttle to "see what it was like" before the break-in schedule was complete. ( this is quite common, especially from dealerships)
3. Verify with 100% certainty that the correct fluids were used in their entirety that we provide and specify.
The main reason we list these things here for you to check is for informational purposes and for your own knowledge.
1. Given these gear sets are now cryogenically treated in every differential we build, it is extremely rare that there is any type of pre-mature differential gear set failures anymore as they used to do with untreated gear sets due to the added metallurgical processes we include for durability in every HP differential we build.
2. From our expereince, the differentials that do pre-maturely whine are usually do to improper break-in/lubricant used of some sort and more often than not, it's from a third party installer that has no vested interest in the car or differential if it fails. If it does fail from improper break-in, they don't care, as they get paid again to change it out... Believe us, we've seen it *MANY* times before.
3. I noticed in another thread you posted elsewhere that your installer stated that the 3.90 differential you purchased gave the car too much wheel spin... How would he know that???? Did the installer take the car out and "test it" for you??? If the break-in procedure isn't followed to an exact "T", we can assure you with 100% certainty that the differential will fail pre-maturely....garaunteed.
4. It seems odd that your installer immediately clung to the fact that we may deny a warranty claim due to improper break-in. ????
We've seen it MANY, MANY times before and unfortunately it only costs the customer more in the long run when the break-in procedures are not followed as we recommend, especially from a third-party installer as stated above, as they have nothing invested in it... We're also not stating your installer is lying to you either, but we have to ask these questions because we've seen pattern of events happen just like yours sooo many times before and it's usually tracable back to the initial "test drive" from a third-party installer. Remember, most shops don't have the opportunity to work on HP Corvette's all the time, so when they get a chance to "see what it'll do" after an upgrade such as this before the break-in procedure is complete, well...you get the picture.
We do have an RMS comparator here that enables us to verify if the face of the gear set has galled from overheating of the differential prematurely due to improper break-in. The witness marks leave a very distinct wear pattern behind when this sort of gear set galling occurs from overheating/overloading during the critical break-in process. Once the gear set teeth edges exceed approx. 300*, the gear surface temper reverses and the gear set starts to whine.....
Please let me make clear that this post is in no way trying to duck out from under the warranty we provide, because we stand behind our product. We know that most Corvette owners take very good care of their cars and would never ignore the break-in procedure of an expensive differential they purchased. We're just posting this information for you and others so they can watch out for this sort of thing when a third-party installer is involved in putting your new differential in your car.
Have a great day!

Best Regards,
DTE
