Hit A/C, blinks 3 times then nothing...?CODE for problem?
My 99 is with my mechanic as we speak. I told him when I hit the AC button it blinks 3 times then does nothing. He thinks this is a code for what needs to be looked at. Any idea? He's still going to run the normal tests. I'm just tryin to hurry up the process.
do you have it on "auto" or manual (the hvac controls), if it is in auto mode, depending on the weather conditions, it will not use the AC and will blink as you described (that is what happens with mine)
Put it in the manual mode and see if it does the same thing.
Like vettenuts says, if the HVAC thinks there is too much humidity, it will run the compressor, no matter what you do. You can press the A/C button all you want, but it will blink and come back on. Even if you press the off button, the light will come back on in a few seconds, and the compressor will try to pull out humidity. Or at least this is what mine has done since day one, and this is what I have told by other forum members and GM service techs.
If you try to run the AC and it will not turn on, check the codes and see what ones are set. If your outside or inside temp sensor is malfunctioning, the AC compressor will not run. See what temp the internal and external displays read. They should be close to what the real temp is. If it is way off the scale, something is FUBAR.
Remember,, check the DTC codes in the DIC! The HVAC system is one of the monitored systems and if a fault exist, it will display.
if you attempt to turn the AC off od it will not shut off, there are a couple of reasons that will cause that. if you have any of the defrost modes selected. Look on the duel climate display and if one of the windshield ICons are displayed, it will NOT shut off!! If it not in one of those modes there may be an issue.
4) Here's the down and dirty.......When the car is lifted up it looks like at sometime (when my dad owned the car), somewhere (either the dealership or place where he had the tires changed), someone (some jackazz mechanic) tried to jack the front of the car up from under the radiator and f-ed up that entire area up pretty good . They got pretty lucky because there was never any noticable effects from their mistake - It only came to our attention once I bought it from my dad and started doing all the work on it myself. However, I'm thinking that this caused a slow leak in the A/C system and over time it lost its freon. Since I can't check the freon I brought it to my mechanic this morning and he thought the maybe the 3 blinks was the HVAC's way of signaling a specific problem so I though I would ask here. He is in the process of checking the system as we speak...
