Default Need help with rear caliper removal

I got the fronts off with a breaker bar...I am concerned about the rears. I don't think I will have enough space to fit a bar in. Any suggestions? Thanks

try positioning the bar in a way that you can lower the car slowly onto the bar at a angle that will use the car weight for pressure, you have to lift it up so that you still have a jackstand for safety.

Careful using the car's weight...just for safety's sake.

Another possibility is to use a shorter bar, and a hammer. If you do this make sure it's a 1/2" drive!

Do you have a compressor?

I tell you what, a $250 compressor (was an xmas present) and an impact gun have more than paid for themselves in my garage...it makes very easy work of this type of thing. Shocks, brake brackets etc. Just an idea.

My CH impact gun wouldn't break the fronts loose...thats why I went to the breaker bar.

I didn't have a lot of swing room, but a breaker bar worked on my rears. Do you have the car high enough? I personally wouldn't use the car weight. Someone just broke a rear caliper bolt and is now dealing with that problem. Not to say you will have the same problem, but at least with your hands on the wrench you can "feel" is the bolt is not breaking loose whereas with the car weight it will come loose or break and you won't know until later.

Not a lot of room back there.

I used a 1/2 in drive socket wrench and "tapped" them lose with a mini-sledge. Not exactly precision engineering but it worked for me.

All the best!

I used short breaker bar and floor jack. It's a little bit tricky, but work very well. Put breaker bar and raise the bar using floor jack gradually.

Good Luck.

Bill Curlee mentioned that a little heat will free up the red locktite. I'd say warm the bolthead with a torch and then give it a turn.

Default 21mm wrench

21mm wr. and a hit from breaker bar or 1/2" ratchet(hold wr. and strike side w/ heavy object)there's 125 ft/lbs of tq on those from the factory, no need for heat

i just did mine and you need to position the breaker bar in the down position and sit behind the car and either pull it towards you with your hands or push it away with your foot, depending on what side you are doing. worked for me. did the same on the front to.
