Default Tire Sensor Problem?

My DIC displays "Right FRT. Tire Flat" and "Serv. Tire Mon. Sys." periodically. There are no problems with the tire air pressure.

Is this definitely a tire sensor issue? Can it be resolved by just replacing the tire sensor? Also, is the right front tire the driver's front tire? I've found that the tire air pressure readings are oriented by facing the front of the car.

TIA!

I believe its a sensor problem. Mine is doing the same thing. Mines the Left rear. It seems that they read if your in the car, I think. I know cause my sensor went bad when I hit the new making of the road. cause it cracked my rear left wheel and it comes up service tire on the L - DIC. I havent replaced mine yet but the best price is at houseofwheels.com ask for BOB.Good Luck

Sounds like your sensor is going bad. I see you have a '97. You've reached about the end of the sensor's life expectancy. In reference to the RIGHT side of the car, right side is passenger side. The reciever for the TPM system is located behind the driver's seat, so the right front wheel is the farthest away from the reciever. The sensors transmit to the reciever, so when signals start to get weak, the farthest will usually show the first symtoms. I assume that somewhere in your car's past life the wheels were off for new tires. I'll also hazard a guess that some of the sensors were put back in another location.

Unfortunately the sensors are fairly expensive to replace, and the batteries are not intended to be serviced or replaced. The forum vendors carry them, some members have reported success in cracking open the sealed sensors and successfully replacing the batteries, you could take your chances buying used sensors (off E-bay and the like) or there is a vendor that will rebuild your's for you (www.nericreations.com).

For your information, there are 2 versions of the sensors: '97 - '00 and '01 - '04. They ARE NOT the same and ARE NOT interchangeable!

Hope I haven't been too long-winded, but that' most of the deal with sensors.

PS - if you replace the sensors, you must "re-train" the new ones. There is a "Tech Tip" for this. Also if you are replacing them you might as well replace the nut and o-ring at the same time (these are cheap). If you mount new ones, the sensor nut torque in 106 INCH POUNDS or about 9 ft. lbs.
