The clutch pedal in my 99 FRC is sticking halfway down and the clutch does not release. This starts to happen after about one hard run at high RPMs. Is there a way to bleed the system or is something else going on?
You can bleed the system. It requires dropping the exhaust and the cover over the torque tube and using an 11mm wrench you can (if you have small hands) get to the bleeder valve that's basically on top of the torque tube. It's possible your slave cylinder is going out...its fairly common. Hows the fluid level look?
Bleeding entire old fluide out may help, some say as the fluid turns black it doesnt release, but I think you most likely will need new master and slave and clutch. The luk set up is not a good one IMHO. Sorry
remove the clutch assist spring. It will still get the spongy feeling after a hard run but it wont stick to the floor. Pedal feel is slightly stiffer. I like it though.
You've answered your own question.. It's heat related.. The stock pre-2002 (I believe that's when they were redesigned) slave cylinders (the one that pushes on the pressure plate) has a history of the seals swelling under increased heat, and once the heat is removed they return to normal.
Not much you can do but pull it apart and replace w/ an updated unit.
BTW, that "black stuff" in your clutch fluid has nothing to do with it sticking.. It's perfectly "normal", and harmless. GM issued a TSB on this; basically it's material being released from the seals.
