Default Which cam?

I have been trying to decide which cam to put into my c5, but still am not sure. Everyone has recommended the LG G5-x3, but I my question which has not been answered is if I can run this cam without any other mods like (springs, pushrods, etc)?

I am looking for a very streetable cam and dont care about it being legal. Any suggestions?

I plan to run it with

KNN intake
granateli MAF
LS1 edit w/ dyno tune
full cats

thanks
Ben

You will need springs for sure, and most have to fly-cut the pistons. I wouldn't say the G5X3 is a drop in type cam.

Ben,

I am in the same situation. Always keep in mind where do you want your car to be in the long run and what is the frequency that you drive the car. Me, I only drive it on the weekends now. So I am thinking about getting some a bit more on the wild side. Good luck and I also recommend the following upgrades:

1. Crank Pully
2. New Push Rods
3. Double Springs (if G5x-3) at least an upgrade
4. Depending on miles, roller chain

Hope this helps.

Bill

You need to upgrade your springs. I'd also recommend the heavy duty pushrods.

KNN intake
granateli MAF
LS1 edit w/ dyno tune

Don't waste your $ on the K&N or MAF. Pick up a VaraRam or Blackwing and long tube headers(NO SHORTIES!). Then have the car dyno tuned.

Alot has to do with what type of transmission you have. With an Auto I would say you may want to reconsider using the cam you mentioned. With a manual trans you can get better streetability with an aggressive cam. Do alot of research before you begin!!!

I have a 2000 frc 6-speed w 23k miles. My ultimate goal would be 400whp and 400wtq. I am really looking for a cam that I could use with stock heads and components, and maybe in the future i will do complete heads all at once. are their any cams that I could run without having to do springs and still get a decent gain?

thanks

LG Motorsports usually runs a sale on the g5x-3 cam and longtubes that they say will put you close. With a manual trans you would probably get away with that cam. But, I'm certain you'd have to upgrade the springs. Stock springs are limited as far as lift goes.

the g5x3 is a drop in cam as long as you go with a 114 lsa and this in fact is quite an awesome proven street/stip cam that makes BIG POWER with the right parts complimenting it (heads, headers, intake, tuning) and no matter what cam you go with you will HAVE TO UPGRADE SPRINGS and push rods and my advice is to put it he best springs that $ can buy, that being something like the comp 921 dual springs or patriot dual gold springs. A couple hundred extra for the BEST SPRINGS is $ well spent for insurance of not having major problems associated with dropped valves, etc. if a spring lets loose and for overall reliabiity and piece of mind!!

I'm going for LGM LT's first. I'm on LGM's waiting list, they ran out of stock. Later, I'm going for a cam. Can't wait!

The comp 921 dual springs or patriot dual gold springs seem to be the best dual springs on the market right now which do not require any special machining to stock LS1/6 heads. A couple hundred extra for the BEST SPRINGS is $ well spent for insurance of not having major problems associated with dropped valves, etc. if a spring lets loose and for overall reliabiity and piece of mind! I have not heard of any COMP 921 springs having failed or the Patriot dual golds, has anyone else?
