Probably old news, yet would I benifit greatly from switching to the Hurricane system after running the Blackwing? I like the idea of colder air in the hot Oklahoma summer, but will the hurricane really make a difference?

I have added a Big Mouth and cut a window in my shroud the size of the Blackwing. Works great.

The Blackwing is a good filter , but if you look at the way it is lying on your upper shroud the bottom 40 % is just about ineffective. Plus your filter is consuming hot engine air. We have a method of optimizing your current set up in turn maximize the Blackwing and increasing the cold static pressure. Which will feed your Blackwing colder air and utilize its 360 degree functionality.
Blackwing, cut hole in shroud size of Blackwing, installed a "IceBox" from Team ZR1 which completely covers the Blackwing from hot engine bay air, works outstanding and you get 360 degrees use of air filter, major difference over stock setup. Also, don't forget to clean you "tiny" wires on your MAF while in there, this will make a lot of difference as well, just be careful in cleaning them.

I looked at that Icebox today. Is there plenty of clearance around the filter or are you drawing from only the bottom half of the filter? Could you tell me approximately how much clearance there is?
I think they're asking $150 for that piece of plastic so I would like to be sure it will allow me to utilize the whole filter. The rest of the design is exactly what I had already done.
Look at the Big Mouth. It's a natural for our setups.
I went with the Hurricane and had it air brushed to match the rest of eng. pieces.
I don't know how it stacks up performance wise, but IMHO, it is one of the best looking systems out there.

I've been running the Blackwing for about five years. Can you elaborate on the wire cleaning you describe? I too have looked into bottom feeded type intakes but the potential for Hydrolock has kept me away. Well, that and cutting a hole in my shroud.

Very nice !
Curious question, do you cut the shroud for the Hurricane ? thanks !

I have heard but not seen that the polycarbonate cover will not hold up. I've been told it cracks.
I would like more info on the Ice Box. It would be a great setup to go with my Blackwing and Big Mouth but I would like to talk to someone that has the Ice Box.
The "unbreakable" scoop that I specify was originally recommended by a forum member who raced his C5, scoop and all, to 175 MPH with no issues whatsoever. I have had mine installed for over one year now and have gone 145 MPH with blasts past 120 more than a few times. Believe me, the unbreakable scoop is one tough cookie!
I originally machined a PVC scoop and was almost ready to install it when the forum member suggested an unbreakable wall pocket from Staples Office Supply for $8. I figured that most C5 owners who want cold air would not be able to machine a scoop or pay to have someone do it, so I opted for the wall pocket. It turns out that it is the perfect size and doesn't impede flow to the radiator (at least from my data and observations).
In case the above link doesn't take you to the procedure, click here for a list of that one and others, like installing the Halltech Stinger and a BPP short shifter: http://www.conceptualpolymer.com/corvette_c5_corner.htm
By the way, as you can see in the procedure, I made the radiator cover cutout a bit small. That part was done in anticipation of using my PVC scoop and when I decided to use the unbreakable wall pocket, the screen was already trimmed to fit the PVC scoop. Those of you who do this mod can certainly make the opening larger. Fortunately, the smaller cutout does do a great job of cooling the intake air (as evidenced by my Car Chip OBD II data) AND not dirtying up the engine bay!

also interested by feed back on the Blackwing Icebox from Team ZR-1.
The data on his website on the intake temp are significant.
