The oil your manual recommends is an oil meeting GM Standard 4718M.
Here's my recommendation:
AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30
AMSOIL SAE Synthetic 5w30
Both of these meet GM Standard 4718M.

GM recommendes MOBILE 1 oil. That's why the Mobile 1 LOGO on the oil filler cap!

Mobil One 5w30 but I use 10w30 because of the extreme heat in AZ.

I have seen incredibly low wear numbers in my oil analysis reports with the use of German made Castrol Syntec 0w30. I've yet to see another oil analysis report from an LS1 or LS6 powered vehicle which looks as good as the reports I get. Mobil 1 5w30 just doesn't have as good of an HTHS (high temperature high stress) number as this oil does, so when you drive hard, the German Castrol is going to protect things so much better. The proof is in the reports!

I humbly disagree. If you open your owners manual and read it, you will see that GM requires an oil meeting GM Standard 4718M. All the owners manual says is that Mobil 1 meets this standard (which it does).
PATMANs oil analysis indicates there are better oils on the market. I just recently had another forum member (LS1 C5) who had been running German Castrol give
AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30 a try. After running the oil for 3281 miles, he submitted the oil to Blackstone labs. The results:
PROPERTIES
ALUMINUM 2
CHROMIUM 1
IRON 6
COPPER 13
LEAD 3
TIN 1
MOLYBDENUM 4
NICKEL 0
MANGANESE 0
SILVER 0
TITANIUM 0
POTASSIUM 0
BORON 38
SILICON 10
SODIUM 1
CALCIUM 2410
MAGNESIUM 795
PHOSPHORUS 1012
ZINC 1144
BARIUM 0
TBN 7.3 (was 11.9 virgin)
Vis 64.5 (SUS) (was 63.4 virgin)
Flashpoint 400
The top metals are wear products (aluminum, iron, etc). Calcium and Magnesium are detergents, Zinc and Phosphorus are anti-wear additives.
