Default Gears vs Tires

Hello everyone,

This is my first post. I have beed reading post for a month or so and find that most of you really know what you are talking about.

My question is if changing the diameter of a tire from 26.67 inches to 24.73 inches and the axel ratio is 3.42, will this have the same effect as changing the effective axel ratio to 3.69?

3.42 x26.67/24.73 = 3.69.

Am I barking up the wrong tree, or will this have the same effect as changing the gears to 3.69?

Thanks to all.

ps Vararam works and both Predator and Hypertech programers are a POS. This is from my own experience. Should have listened to your advice from the beginning.

Welcome aboard!

Yes, your math is correct and will give you a shorter "effective" gear set.

Best,
Karl

I'm going to take a stab at this, but I may not be right

3.42 means driveshaft turns 3.42 times for every axle turn.
26.67 inches diameter has a circumference of 26.67*Pi or 83.75" / 3.42 axle turns = 24.48" per axle turn at 1:1 ratio

Now with 24.73 inches circumference is 77.65
77.65" / 3.42 axle turns = 22.7" per axle turn at 1:1

24.48 / 22.7 = 1.07:1 ratio

1.07 * 3.42 = 3.68

3.68, oh wait, that is your answer.... Guess algebra is good for something or maybe we are both wrong

Don't forget that the front tires need to be the same or a little smaller then the rear for the active handling to work right.

If you go with a smaller diameter rear tire than the front, your traction control system will think your rear tires are spinning. So be aware that you will need a proportional set of front tires as well.
