I wanted to upgrade to cross drilled and slotted rotors. Each company puts their own spin on how they are to be drilled. Some say there should only be a maximum of 20 holes on the front and 18 on the rear. Other have 30 +. Is there any set standard that work well without having to purchase them from say the Baer line?? Also I heard that GM make the cross drilled rotors. Are they any good? Are they plated to avoid rust?
Also FYI...I checked on Brembo rotors from a brake company in MASS. Was told that Brembo doesn't even make domestic rotors but sells their name for packaging purposes.
I looked into this a couple of years ago. Several folks here on the forum had complained about the Baers cracking, even without track use. I ended up going with the Wilwoods because everyone I contacted had not had this problem with them. You will need to assemble the two piece fronts and twist wire the fasteners though, so be aware of that if you decide on the Wilwoods.
wilwoods are great, but they are very expensive. I have the baers and they are expensive as well. If you want cross drilled/slotted stay away from the gm rotors. they are not zinc coated and will rust as soon as they get wet. a popular option are sportbrakes. they are $250 shipped if you mention you are a forum member. www.sportbrakes.com. they also have a store on ebay
All Brembo rotors along with Napa's and most other after market rotors and made by PBR in Canada and the US. Brembo just buy's their blanks and does the machineing and zinc washing and sells them in their pretty boxes with their name all over it. I have a set of Brembo D&S zinc washed rotors that have been on my ZO6 for about 3 months now that need to be painted. No rust but they look like crap, not shiny and metallic, more a dull hardwater stain look. As far as your question, I dont know. It is best to have no holes at all but I just like the look. I have not really noticed any increased brakeing performance from D&S rotors, just a sportier look.
The GM D&S rotors are the best bang for the buck!!
Yes they are not zinc coated but they are dirt cheap compared to the BIG name brand (waste of money) rotors.
I simply bought a $20.00 caliper paint kit and painted all the rotor hubs black so rust is a non issue now.
Total cost:
4 GM D&S rotors $200.00 s/h included Ebay
1 black caliper paint kit $20.00
