Guys i usually dont redline my car on a regular basis but last time i got on it all the way i noticed that the car shifted normal up to 3rd and it won't shift into 4th if you have the gas pedal gunned all the way is this normal? IT just maxes out at 6000 rpm and no one can make it shift unless you let of the gas a little. this sucks le tme know what you guys think.
6000 rpm in third is +160mph, may very well be the torque management that is interfering with full throttle shifting. The car wont pull in overdrive at those speeds anyway...
6000 rpms shifting from 3rd to 4th is 107 mph with a MN6 trans and mn12 ( ZO6) is 97 mph. When you make the shift slighlty lift the accelortor and gentley shift from 3rd to 4th. Dont do power shifts. Your shifting is almost a 2 stage shift, "3rd to neutral to 4th" or "Click, click, click". at about the speed it took you to read that phrase.
the movement though Neutral will allow the syncro gears in the transmssion to speed up and mesh. If you shift TOO fast the syncro gears will not mesh and you can NOT shift. So actully slow your phyiscal shifting down to go faster.
ok the problem is from 2nd to 3rd the car has an auto transmission the speed at which it occurs is +/- 105 mph, do you think its the tranny or the computer programming that went bad. It would shift awesome a couple monthes back then it started doing this b.s. By the way whats torque management?
Torque Management is a computer program that GM installed in the PCM that reduces power when the transmission shifts at WOT, to help prolong the life of the transmission. The A4 is the weak-link on the C-5. Removal of Torque Management may or may not reduce the life of the transmission, but many people do it through the use of hand-held tuners or through professional tuners.
As far as your problem goes, I don't have any information that can help. Sorry...
2-3 clutch paks are worn out. I had this problem when I bought my car. This is the weak link to these A4 transmissions. The dealership replaced the clutch paks under warranty ($1600). About a month later the tranny totally failed( lost 2nd gear completly) and finally put a new tranny in the car.My car only had 40,000 miles on it too
well guys thanks for the input but this is a new tranny i mean it was rebuilt by amcco (however u spell it) less than 15,000 miles ago it has about one year of light use.
