Based on the many informative discussions on this forum, I checked the codes after my 3 day old, 2000 C5 showed the "check engine light" message. I ran through the codes the DIC showed and all of them had an H by them. After that, I pushed different combinations of the buttons to clear them. I did clear them (and don't know how I did it). But the bottom line is that right after I cleared them, the check engine light went off. It hasn't returned.
My question is this: Since all the codes had an H by them, meaning they are history codes, does that mean that whatever conditions were causing the check engine light to come on are now gone? Did the system fix itself? Or did the previous owner fix them and just forgot to clear the codes, so the system kept throwing the check engine light on based on the historical codes?
Whatever faulted to cause the check engine light to come on has cleared itself and if you wouldn't have cleared the codes out then more than likely after a few more cycles the light would have gone out on it's own.
