Default Cam install this weekend - any tips???

So I'm installing my monster cam this weekend - 234/240 598/608 114LSA. Adding dual springs, oil pump, timing chain etc. - all the usual stuff.

I've bought a Thunder Racing valve spring compressor and a tool that holds all 16 lifters in place. Tune is a mail order tune until I get it dyno tuned next week. A4 with 2.73 gears and stock TC.

Any other tips you guys & gals can offer to make this a nice smooth install????

EG

I posted some tips on LS1TECH a couple of times. Do a search on posts for Byter. I included tips and some tools not listed at http://www.ls1howto.com.

hey england, no tips here! just wanted to wish you luck!! we did my cam 2 weeks ago, and it was straight forward. the only tough part was getting the steering rack out of there.

oh and try to make a list of everything you will need before hand!! we ended up making a bunch of parts runs.

keep us updated!!

Are you doing just the cam? Or supporting mods as well? Full exhaust, and gears would probably really make a huge difference along with that cam. Just a thought.

Big cam, I'll be waiting to see how it works for you. I would like to go BIG myself.... My tuner recommended smaller than that for an A4 especially with the stock converter. Maybe I won't listen to him.

No need to remove the rack, unbolt it shove it to the side. Loosen the motor mounts and slightly lift the engine. This will allow you to get on the crank bolt without rack removal.

Already have all the usual bolt ons except heads (headers, Blackwing etc.).

Speed Density tuning should get me where I want to be with the stock gears/TC until I change to 3.73:1 and 3200 stall

Good luck with the install! I can't wait to do mine. BTW, which tool did you get to hold the lifters? Where? How much?

Go with the Rollmaster dual timing chain and LS6 ported oil pump. Just got done myself on July 1st. Clean everything as you go! It forces you to take your time. New lifters and measure for new pushrods while your in there IMO. Good luck.

Sounds like a plan.... puny cam... hehe lol j/k.... VERY NICE cam choice!.. I'm going with a somewhat similar spec cam here in a couple weeks.

Looks like you have everything sorted out. Like Brian mentioned, the steering rack is the PITA part.. Just bulky moving it out and around. But the entire swap is VERY straight forward and the article on LS1HOWTO.COM is great.

The Home Depot solid fiberglass rods worked like a charm....and Brian managed to get a pic of my hairy *** arms pulling the cam out..

I thought it was fun!

Good luck, and take care!

stephen, i'll see you sat in the am, very interested in the speed density tune(last s.d. car i had was my 88 mustang gt); NOW i hear about the HD fiberglass rods, i thought the 5/16"s cold rolled steel was the way to go?
