Twice in the last 2 months my Check Engine light will come on,
stay on for a couple of days then go out. I checked the owners
manual and it gave several reasons why this might happen but here
are the details:
- My car runs great and all guages always are in the normal range
- Very dry here, no rain, so doubt I have the wet harness issue
- No DIC trouble codes
Any ideas guys?
Your comments are greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Bill
Have you scrolled thru the H codes? (H meaning codes displayed with an H next to them means a histroy code) try that page and see if you can find a code that has come up, HTH
Any code that causes the CHECK ENGINE light to light normaly will set a DTC code in the DIC. One of the exceptions is ENGINE MISFIRE! The Eng misfire code is under the PCM P-0300 and will only come on and be able to be seen during and shortly after the event. If you see the CHECK ENGINE light flash under heavy acceleration, check the codes right then (You can check them while you are driving down the road!!! )
See how that idea plays out!! Let me know how things turn out.
Thanks to all who responded - Details below:
Kasper-PA - No H codes that would indicate Check Engine problem
Torch99 - I'm hoping its a simple sensor issue
JCrouse - Knock sensor? not sure what that is but ditto Torch99 cmnts
Bill Curlee - Sitting at idle when light comes on, not during acceleration
jcgordon - I feel it's not a gas issue. Use the same station, always OK
JimBacus - Not low on gas
If it's a sensor issue I guess I'll have to wait for one to completely
fail before I know which one it is.
A bad oxygen sensor will set a code in the PCM. DTC's 131 to 167 are all in reference to oxygen sensors. I'm certain you should have a h code telling you what happened. Do you know anyone with HPTuners or LS1Edit that could scan your car?
Torchredfrc - Yes, I take my car to one of the best C5 mechanics
around (Alan Furtal @ Futral Motorsports) I guess I need to pay
him a visit. Haven't talked to him since he installed my new clutch.
THANKS for all the comments guys
