Anybody try Avon tires yet? Called the Tirerack and sales guy said he highly recommended them. They are Coopers high performance tire brand. Said they are cheap right now because they are trying to gain market share. Said he compared them to the Kumha's but way cheaper.
Avon are great tires that are well-respected in Europe and are just trying to make their mark here. And yes, they are very well-priced right now. They're better than Kumhos, although a little pricier I believe. I know a few people who've got them on their sports cars and absolutley love them.
As a point for sharing information, Avon tire is one of the few original rubber tire manufacturing companies ever created. Avon was founded in Melksham, England in 1885. And, for over seventy years, has since been an o.e. provider for some of the most impressive marks in the automotive industry: Bentley, Rolls Royce, The Rover, The Morgan, and, even Triumph motorcycles. Avon has always been an innovator and was one of the first to develop the pneumatic tire with "cords" to better reinforce this product as public consumer demand and the "industrialization" of developing nations, spearheaded technology. Avon has gone on to test tire construction in European Formula racing throughout the years. The nineties heralded in new technology and access. And, Avon Tyre was purchased by Cooper Tire in 1997. Now, Avon Tyre is sold in more than 70 countries (plus Latin America) worldwide. Avon Tyre continues to be an innovator in the high performance realm of tire construction, and, has recently introduced the worlds first ultra wide 330mm high performance chopper tire! Lastly, as you had been informed earlier, Avon is striving to attain more market share by increasing its marketing mix, and, thereby, enter the American high performance tire market. Avon continues to release exceptional value and performance for the dollar right into the new millenia even in American high performance automotive tire applications. Man, it sure is great to have so many quality tire options to choose from.
I have the Avon Tech M500's right now. I am not so impressed. They're ok--similar to the Goodyear runflats in ride quality and noisier. Wet performance might be a little better... Traction is probably a little worse than on the GY runflats...
Tire Rack gave me a price of $164 a piece with $20 in shipping. It's worth a try. I'm on my second set of rear tires anyways and only have 17k on the clock;-) At least I'll burn up a less expensive tire instead of Goodyear's again.

Did you have that front bumper kit custom made? Or is that Photoshop?
Great! I should get them today since they shipped out yesterday from the tire rack. Can't wait. I keep thinking the GS D3's I got on the rear going to blow out. I'm into the wear bars and getting paranoid about driving the car.
torch2000vert, did you have problems running them at 30lbs psi? Just wondering.
I've been using Avon's on my Harley for 10 years. No problems, good mileage. I've seen one brand new Avon shread to the cords in less than 500 miles; front tire on m/c. Obviously a fluke in manufacturing.
Rolls Royces are delivered with Avon's. That should say something for them.
Got the 2 rear tires installed. They run great so far. A lot better than the Goodyear GS D3's I had. Only problem is now all I hear when I drive down the road is the noise from the front Goodyears. I would say for the price $164 per tire in 275/40/18 size you can't beat them.
