I just asked the dealer to run the history on my "new to me" 2001 Z06. It came back that there are no open recalls, but it also provided me with a history of all the warranty work that has been completed prior to me taking ownership. Come to find out, the car had an engine replaced at 4532 miles, then again at 6102 miles (less than 2 months later) . That is all the information it gave me. Now I am wondering why the engine(s) were replaced. could it have been for the oil consumption issue? The car runs great, and seems to be in excellent condition, but I like to know the history of the cars i am driving. Is there any way to access the dealer database to find out why the work was performed?

Don't have a clue but If it is running good why worry . You have a new engine the old engines were probably sucking oil . The original owner probably got disgusted after two engines and through in the towel . Relax you know what they say---- the third time is the charm---- just enjoy the ride Bob
At a minimum, the car will have a service history at the dealer(s) that performed the work. Your local dealer may be able to access this for you. Has the car always been located in your state? Will you be able to narrow down what dealerships it might have been serviced at?

Yeah...I hear ya. The engine does run very well, and is very powerful. I guess I was hoping to find out that the last engine installed is an '02 model with 405hp . I do, however, enjoy driving this car more than I can tell you. thanks for the reply.

I can not find the dealer that did the work. The car was originally sold in Texas, than sold to the guy I bought it from in Minnesota. I bought it from him in New York. I have the GM vehicle inquiry summary that showa R.O date, number, type, and labor operation, but none of the customer comments.
Oh well, the car is awsome, but like I said I like to know the history of my cars.
Mine had an engine replacement also. I called the orig. owner and he said the orig. engine was using to much oil. He had taken it in several times and they could never fix it. So he had them replace the motor at 29k miles. This is all in the service history report (that I had printed from the dealership). It runs fine now.
GM has a policy that typically requires a complete engine replace on new production engine issues so they can be sent back for analysis in tact. This goes on for X amount of engine for a given problem until the root cause of the failure and service fix can be implemented.
I do know that oil consumption and valvetrain "woop" were 2 issues that year.

I've got what the dealer says is piston knock. The dealer says lots of Corvettes have it and there is nothing to worry about, it's normal! I say "BS"! Not Normal! but they still refuse to do anything.
Is there a way that I could get them to replace my LS1 ? My warranty is up in August......
It does run well and doesn't use a drop of oil.
I wouldn't worry about it at all. My vette had a service history a mile long up to it's 36k mi warranty. The most notable thing was they replaced the entire brake system on the car
Believe me when I say everything is in tip-top shape now! The previous owner fixed everything for me

you can say "B.S." all you want... but if it's the normal LS-1 noise we all have been hearing over the years... then it is normal.

Believe it or not, its fairly common on most Gen III's. Its even worse on the trucks. If you complain enough they will extend the engine warranty, typically to 100k. And I have seen no ill effect, just an annoyance at cold startup.

register your car. You will need the vin number and need to fax that
number in with other info that you fill out on line. You will also need to fax in proof that you own the car. I faxed in my insurance card. In about 1 day, you will be able to find the whole history on the car repairs done at the dealership, open recalls, etc.
