New Guy Here - Need Starter Help!
Every few days, I turn the key and only hear a click each time. I'm guessing the starter solenoid. After about 5 tries, it starts right up.
I've read up on previous posts, and checked error codes. The codes are all history codes. I also installed a new optima battery & cleaned the terminals & also the key. I still have the same problem. Every now and again, turn and click...but everything electrical works.
Do all signs point to a new starter? Its a 99' with about 50,000 miles.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Is it an auto or MN6?
It could be the starter. It could also be something in the starter safety circuit.
If you want to eliminate or prove the starter, sometimes this works.
Jack the car and place it on stands. Have someone start the car. If it does NOT start, have them HOLD the key in the START position while you hit the starter hard with a plastic hammer. If the DC brushes or solenoid have intermittant contact, the vibration will normaly cause it to start. You could also have loose electrical connections on the starter and or solenoid. Check those also.
If that is the case, you can rebuild your starter, or get a remanufactured one.
If that procedure failes, let me know what flavor car you have and I will make some electrical repair recommendations.
